Scottish oil and natural gas workers are natural partners for a China as it seeks ways to satisfy growing energy demands, Scottish leader Alex Salmond said.
The country’s first minister said energy partnerships would top the agenda during his trade mission to China this week.
“Scotland’s enviable reputation as the European capital of oil and gas and our ongoing pioneering work in exploration and extraction gives us a strong appeal to Chinese firms looking for both domestic and international future energy supplies,” he said in a statement Monday.
Salmond planned to meet with senior management officials at China National Offshore Oil Corp. and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp, known also as Sinopec.
China’s expanding economy has positioned the country as a world leader in terms of energy demand.
Salmond said workers from his country have the experience from North Sea operations necessary to help China capitalize on its domestic energy supplies.

If you wonder what that angry barking sound is in the distance, than rest assured it is coming from London. There are 5 million Scots and 60+ million British. The idea is that most of the remaining British oil and gas revenues will be directed to Scotland rather than Britain, putting the Scots on par with the Norwegians, currently the richest Europeans, for as long as it lasts.
Everybody seems to think that the next oil war will take place in the Middle East/Gulf. How about the Hadrian Wall? Hopefully Mel Gibson is monitoring events closely, as his services might be needed in the near future.

China is ‘partnering’ with just about everyone now … but will suddenly be all China when the SHTF. They are gaining control over resources everywhere with Charmin dollars. Just as no one really knows how much gold they have, no one knows how much coal, oil, etc. is stashed away in that large country. And they are building pipelines into Russia and to the Arabian Sea to facilitate shipments in the future.
The US’ Military/Security budget is a trillion dollars. China spends far less on that, but their Resource Security budget is more than a trillion dollars per year. Who will be ahead when the SHTF?

China is quietly buying up everything of value, first and foremost gold, to dump the dollar, without making it look like China is dumping the dollar. At some point it will no longer bother to pretend it is not dumping the dollar, initiating a game of musical chairs, greatly increasing the speed with which the dollars will change hands, until the last fool is stuck with them. Exit dollar, like the Reichsmark.
@mike: China is 1.3 billion strong, with or without Scotland.
