Saudi Arabia says it has shot down a missile fired into the kingdom from nearby Yemen, which is engulfed in a civil war.
The Saudi military says it intercepted the missile Thursday morning in Jizan province and later attacked and destroyed the platform that launched the missile in Yemen.
It made the announcement in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.
Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies in the Gulf, backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government, have been battling Shiite rebels in the country known as Houthis. The Houthis have access to Yemen’s supply of Soviet-era Scud missiles and have fired several across the border during the conflict.
The United Nations says the war in Yemen, the Arab world’s poorest country, has killed nearly 2,800 civilians since March.

The reason for unlimited support for Saudi us that without it, Arabia collapses into tribal Emirates, perfect for Big Oil to exploit. In fact the British used to secure the oil themselves, it’s a wonder people can’t see how the US replaced the BRITISH. Saudi does as it pleases and pumps the oil! the US keeps the seas free and clear and keeps out of Saudi politics, that’s the deal!

Good practice for when the Iranians come knockin’ and not their proxies. Will they (Saudis) be able to reopen the Straits of Hormuz if they are closed? Iran has had practice and survived not selling their oil. Close the Straits and Saud falls PDQ and good riddance.

The straights won’t be closed though Paulo. This is a game they are playing, it’s like Chess and they are checking each other, but the players won’t hurt their own pockets. The oil will flow, it has to, otherwise after 2 weeks of closed straights the al saud family are goat herders again.

Yep, Saudi’s attacking with untold billions of US weapons and some group fires a missile which appears to me to be a very feeble attempt to justify Saudi actions.

“otherwise after 2 weeks of closed straights the al saud family are goat herders again.”
As long as the USD remains in a position of global hegemony, I’m sure that the Al Saud’s goat herding enterprise will remain rather lucrative. Anywhere in the world that they would like to build it. My guess would be somewhere in a US ‘protectorate’. Like perhaps Arizona?

This all looks like SA is trying to start a war with Iran so they can drag the US in to clean it up. We need to stay out of the ME, period. They are quite happy to kill each other themselves without our help.

joe, why won’t the Iranians close the straits when the SHTF? A few tankers sunk in the channel would end oil shipments for years. Iran can ship their oil North and East through their pipelines. They don’t need the Straight to be open.
They also don’t need USDs as they now trade in other currencies and gold, thanks to Russia and China.
