Riyadh (AFP) – Saudi Arabia said its air defences on Friday intercepted a missile fired by Yemeni rebels, days after the insurgents’ second-in-command was killed in an air raid by Riyadh and its allies.

The ballistic missile, the latest in a series of similar attacks, was headed towards the kingdom’s southern coastal city of Jizan, the official state news agency said. No casualties were reported.

Saudi Arabia launched a military coalition in 2015 to battle the Huthi rebels in its southern neighbour and restore the internationally-recognised Yemeni government to power.

The Huthis control Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, as well as much of Yemen’s north and the key Hodeida port on the country’s western coastline.

Riyadh on Wednesday confirmed it was behind an air strike on the Yemeni capital that killed Saleh al-Sammad, president of the Huthis’ Supreme Political Council, on April 19.

The rebels will hold a public funeral for Sammad in Sanaa on Saturday.

Nearly 10,000 people have been killed since the Saudi-led alliance joined the Yemen conflict, triggering what the United Nations has called the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Yemen now stands at the brink of famine.

The alliance imposed a total blockade on Yemen’s ports in November in retaliation for the rebel missile attacks. The blockade has since been partially lifted, but access to the impoverished country remains limited.

this is at least the 10th article i’ve seen about saudi arabia downing a missile from yemen. I really don’t get it. SA is invading Yemen, not the other way around. It’s just bizarre fucking propaganda for SA. Is it to show how untouchable they are? How powerful? Even though they’ve been fighting for three years against essentially a bunch of local yokels and SA has all the military hardware imaginable plus direct support of US military. And still can’t win.

“restore the internationally-recognised Yemeni government to power.” we had to kill them to save them.

“an air strike on the Yemeni capital that killed Saleh al-Sammad, president of the Huthis’ Supreme Political Council, on April 19.” so was he a political figure or a military leader? so targeting civilians is cool now?

I dont know about much about warfare, but it seems decidedly stupid to me to shoot one missile once in a blue moon. I would rather shoot a number of missiles at the same time – while trying to make some kind of diversion inside the target area or along the route.

In the age of the missile, not even missiles are safe anymore!

Says tank, APC, cruiser, carrier, plane, missile: “look, here I am!”

Says missile: “no, you are not”

New reality: the piece of military hardware that appears on the scene first, is destined to leave the scene first, as scrap metal. Very much unlike the Wild West of former fame where the one wins, who shoots first. In the current battle arena, those who shoots second, wins. This is great news for those who prefer defensive warfare rather than offensive warfare. French and Russians love this development, Washington and Israel not so much.

    One is reminded of Vietnam.
The Beatles used to sing: “can’t buy me love”.
They could as well have sung: “can’t buy me morale” (much to the bewilderment of their fans)

What does Yemen have that the Saudis want?

Seems as though all the UN has really done since its charter is create a world at war with famine and death as a result. Nascent green shoots towards extinction.

Get rid of the UN, war will stop. Except the Middle East, they kill each other all the time over there and it does not stop, been going on for centuries. Youdda thought that the lessons would have been learned by now, but humans are animals and they do kill.

They Saudis have a propensity to use beheading as a just punishment, you’d think they were in France during the Reign of Terror or something.

Forget about the 60,000 deaths in the US each year from murder and suicide, that is how the US rolls inside the gates, the barbarians are no longer outside the gates.

Henry Ford hired Yemeni people because they had a good work ethic.

Detroit began as an 18th century French colonial trading post, and its subsequent economic history has been one built on a foundation of immigrant labor and entrepreneurship.

If people from the Middle East can live and work in Detroit, then by golly, the world can live better. Just a better world in the words of Bill Hicks.

The world will be a better place without the UN.

Even groups in America now side with Russia/Eurasia, not with Washington:

Cloggie, the military needs to justify its budget. Re – read ‘rebuilding Americas defenses’ by our neo-con friends in pnac. You’ll catch the drift.
This peace craze thing will blow over. Trump often says important things that the fake news media never report, like leaving syria and having peace with Russia. A certain democratic Catholic president used to say similar things about the US and Russia. They blew out his brains….

That’s because JFK wanted to abolish the Fed and prevent Israel from acquiring nukes.

Israel now HAS nukes and Trump makes no effort to abolish the Fed. Even Feinstein and Dershovitz support his presidency. Feinstein even went so far as to suggest that Trump could potentially be a great president. Bloomberg said that talk about impeachment should stop.

I think Trump is in relative safety now and can complete his first term. He now gets along with the Europeans, Korea is a gift from heaven. The recent blow against Syria was meaningless, just intended to appease the US war mongers.

The Iran dossier contains many dangers though.
