Speaking upon arrival in Vienna on Thursday evening, Qassemi said the unilaterally imposed western sanctions against Iran are another issue that would be discussed in Friday session of OPEC. “Most OPEC member countries are opposed to the unilaterally sanctions imposed by some western countries against the Islamic Republic of Iran and ask for issuing a declaration about the issue,” he noted. “Since oil is an economic product and the activities of OPEC are of economic nature, Iran’s least expectation is that the OPEC members would issue a communiqué in support of Tehran against the unilaterally imposed western sanctions.” The 163rd Ordinary OPEC Conference would begin its activities on Friday in Vienna at the Permanent OPEC Headquarters in the Austrian capital city in the presence of the OPEC oil ministers. Meantime, Qazzemi further stated that Iran has always favored balance in international oil Market. |

Sanctions or bombs? If the west and ME mean what they say about Iran and Nukes, then these are the only options because diplomacy and negotiation doesn’t produce too much in the way of slowdown. I had a thought that while Iran and others are engaged with Syria, a strike window seems to be looming. Have you ever knowcked down a big wasp nest? It is always pretty fun but you can’t visit the site for awhile without being stung. I think an attack on Iran would be a very very messy event with years of problems and unintended consequences. It might also unite the Iranian population behind the hardliners.

Most Sunni states meanwhile fear their own populations more than the Americans and they do not like to be seen too much as an American puppet in the eyes of the people they govern. Everybody knows what happened to Mubarak.

A very complicated moment in the unfolding of the End. Sanctions are not a slap on the wrist. Their affects are on par with aggressive attacks. They take out civilian populations.
The US has never really offered a rationale for doing this, other than that we just don’t want these particular guys having one of THOSE.
I’m all for letting OPEC bring up the subject. The question remains, will they exert any leverage?

It’s not the bomb possibility, it is the fact that Iran sells its oil and natgas for things other than dollars. The balance of the Empire depends on keeping the dollar the major currency used in international trade. When that ends, the Empire goes down.
Remember:
Saddam wanted to sell oil for Euros.
Gaddafi wanted to start an African banking system based on gold.
Where are they today?
But China, Russia, India, Japan, Brazil, Venezuela, South Africa, etc. are doing an end run around the West and are setting up a trade system without dollars. The game is coming to the end … of the dollar.
