The extraordinary thought disorders of this moment in history are equally distributed across the political spectrum. They’re an inevitable product of what Sigmund Freud identified as the discontents of civilization, but they grow especially acute as that civilization enters an economic crack-up zone. The craziness is equally distributed while the nation’s wealth is not. The old middle, or center, is imploding both economically and psychologically, concentrating distortions of reality at each end, Left and Right.
The disordered thought in Trumpism is as self-evident as (a) covfefe, though it came into being out of the authentic pain of those classes that bear the brunt of accelerating collapse. The thought disorders among Trump’s adversaries interest me more, because they emanate from the far more educated ranks of society, the place where rational leadership is supposed to spawn. If you can’t depend on those people to think straight in difficult times, then it raises the question of what exactly is the value of an advanced education?
For instance: the incredible new idea put out by CNN that it is verboten for officials in the government — the president especially — to meet with the Russian ambassador to the United States. I’ve asked this question before, but obviously it needs to be repeated in the face of this persistent nonsense: why do you think nations send diplomats to other lands if not to meet with and communicate with government officials? Since when — and why — are we shocked that a US president would meet in the White House with the Russian ambassador and foreign minister? Did previous presidents not meet with Russian diplomats? Did incoming officials in earlier election transitions never meet with Russian diplomats on the way to assuming their duties? And if they did meet, what do you suppose they talked about? The Baltimore Orioles pitching prospects? The newest fusion cuisine? Or serious matters of mutual geopolitical interest? Do American diplomats in Moscow avoid meeting with Russian leaders? Why do we even bother to send them there?
Whether it is a misunderstanding of reality by the educated people who work on Cable TV news, or a malicious twisting of the public’s credulity, it is producing a grievous breakdown in collective coherence with the potential of causing enormous political mischief in American life. The Dem/Prog “resistance” may think that it is taking a bold stand against a rogue government, but it is only making itself look dangerously unreliable as a supposed alternative to Trumpism.
Otherwise the Dem/Prog Left is dissipating its political and cultural energy in a species of quixotic agit-prop campaigns against reality and ultimately against the project of civilization itself. For instance, the crusade to erase any firm notions of American manhood. Case in point: the front page story on Friday’s The New York Times website: How to Raise a Feminist Son.
For children to reach their full potential, they need to follow their interests, traditional or not. So let them…. Offer open-ended activities, like playing with blocks or clay, and encourage boys to try activities like dress-up or art class, even if they don’t seek them out, social scientists say. Call out stereotypes. (“It’s too bad that toy box shows all girls because I know boys also like to play with dollhouses.”)

In case you’re wondering why pop culture is so saturated by and preoccupied with comic book superheroes it’s because American men are no longer permitted to enact the petty heroics of everyday life, including the ability to support a family by working for a living. (What a quaint idea, I know!) So there is nothing left for them but absurd grandiose fantasies of what it means to be a man. Destroying the boundaries between sexes, and denying that biology even enters into the matter, will only make it more difficult for this nation to navigate through the straits of extreme economic distress.
Second case in point: The trend this year among college students demanding new racially segregated dormitory arrangements, in the name of “inclusion and diversity.” It’s one thing for 19-year-olds to be confused but quite another, and more interesting, that adult college deans go along with this deranged hypocrisy — and so far, I have not heard of a dean or college president willing to oppose this arrant affront to reason. The ultimate victim of all this nonsense is the truth, or course. If you think that truth doesn’t matter, you’ll be very disappointed with the way things turn out in Covfefe Land.

But I am not going to follow orthodox religions by presuming that I know what the meaning is. Intelligent life is such a remarkable phenomenon to emerge out of the basic physical laws that some connection seems implied, i.e., some correlation between laws and consequences of the laws — what in common terms we would call a plan”

In order to find the purpose of anything, it is necessary to look at it from outside the thing, as pointed out above. Similarly, in order find out the purpose of the cosmos and life, it is necessary to look at them from an inclusive vantage point, one which is not limited to the physical, mechanical elements of existence, but includes the paranormal, the transcendent. And in this day of relativistic physics and quantum mechanics it is also necessary to discard the nineteenth-century delusion that only Newtonian physics exists and explains all.
Just because we humans cannot immediately see the purpose of our being in immediate sensory terms, or in terms of anthropomorphic (or theriomorphic) gods, does not mean there is no pupose. Nihilism is utterly false because its nineteenth-century premisses are false. By looking at evolution we can get some idea of the true purpose of existence: the development of intelligence. Which means we cannot sink into the absurdity of keeping lower humanoids alive to overwhelm our civilization, our culture and our science because of false religious fantasies. Otherwise we shall have rejected responsibility for our own being, and the purpose for the universe.

A solution, as you point out, is to select some sensible thing to believe in, such as: the universe was created in order that intelligent life might arise, and that our purpose is the development of intelligence. No assumption about a “God”, but merely that the physics of the universe is such that there is inherent meaning, namely that it exists for the purpose of evolving intelligent beings.
A caveat: reason itself has become a religion — it’s adherents do not tolerate contemplation of irrational thoughts and ideas. Most people do not realize how great a role irrational thoughts and ideas play in their lives; neglecting this portion of ourselves leads to all sorts of psychic problems. Thus ‘intelligence’ must be thought of more broadly as a full integration of all of our psychic elements, the ability to reason being only one of a number of elements.
Perhaps the current downward spiral of the current crop of intelligence is necessary for some sort of purification, out of which will arise a more highly evolved species. Perhaps this new species will recognize the wisdom of the regulars of the Peakoil.com discussion boards. 🙂

It was all predicted by Friedrich Nietzsche, namely that after the death of Christianity, a phase of nihilism was to be expected, before a new set of values and religion would be imposed by a new aristocratic class. In his early days he thought that it could be the Jews who would be that new aristocratic class. Most American elite and people like Coudenhove-Kalergi think/thought that too.
Later though Nietzsche began to understand the sinister side of these people and began to distance himself from them and instead turned to the Romans as “role model”.

There is no reason to reject tradition just because life is now neurotic. A more advanced spirituality can have both. Community and spirituality can coexist in your mind. Religion is an odd mix of the two that is a product of our nature and nurture. It is also the enlighten individual who can also allow spirituality and science their proper place. This should not be about decisiveness it should be about creativity and decisiveness. There are enlightened ones who find humility in the wisdom of yielding to higher powers and ultimately losing oneself. So long as we hold on to our dualism of the ego we will seek power over responsibility and self-preservation over a spiritual reconciliation. Self-preservation and power suffer mortality and responsibility and reconciliation harmony. This is not to say either is good or bad or right or wrong. This is about an illusion of losing and finding which is really just the life force.
Intelligence may or may not be the underlying force in the universe. Intelligence may be the self-consciousness of the universe and its loss thereof. Its separation from loss by knowing through self-consciousness such that this rhythm allows the creative elements to flow and to congeal. An all knowing intelligence would be static because its actions would already be known. There would be no movement if that movement is known beforehand. No intelligence would be complete randomness and entropy. It is this play that leads to the free unmerited activity of intelligent action.
We can look on our human world with descriptions like downward spiral and craziness or we can acknowledge a force in the universe as above human intelligence and possibly universal intelligence. Intelligence may be but one aspect of the whole and as such our connection to this universal intelligence through human intelligence is likewise only part of something beyond an understanding that is the existential arrangement. IOW at some point our nature has no up or down there is only is.

A so-called “Berliner Kreis” (Berlin Circle) within the right wing of the CDU has attacked Merkel’s climate policy.
Global warming is NOT denied, but the Circle wants to stress that there are also positive aspects to climate change. The Circle demands a radical policy change and want an end of “moral black mail” from climate change scientists. Climate change could come with advantages that outweigh disadvantages. IPCC is described as a “save the world circus”.
Surprisingly (and confusingly) the Circle says that it is not possible to keep global warming below 2 degrees anyway and Germany alone can do nothing about it. Therefor it is better to prepare for the change rather than trying to prevent the change, which is futile anyway.
The expensive (?) energy transition should be slowed-down, as well as e-mobility and energy efficiency measures applied to buildings.
The timing of this time bomb going off is obviously no coincidence. Trump can be satisfied.
My own attitude: although I’m disgusted with the policies of Merkel and her so-called “refugees”, I support her Energiewende and Paris Accords.
It is true that there are also advantages to higher CO2 levels, namely spectacularly more vegetation (“fertilizing the atmosphere”). There is the distinct possibility that there is a logarithmic and not linear relationship between global warming and CO2 levels, implying that global warming will halt itself eventually and we will NOT have run away climate change. It is also true that folks who push radical climate change policies (like “our” apneaman) are invariably folks with a commie political agenda, aiming at global governance.
Nevertheless there is no reason to halt the energy transition because on the price front renewable have already won, c.q. will win in the very near future, hand in hand with economies of scale. China will press ahead anyway, because of unbearable air pollution in its cities.

Meanwhile, the Demonic Party continues to suppress investigation of the murder of Seth Rich, who sluiced info on the DNC’s presidential campaign corruption to Wikileaks through a New Zealander. One wonders how much the Dems paid Rich’s parents to say that they did not want their son’s murder “politicized.” And, given the countless Demonic plants inside the DeepState, it remains an unanswerable question as to whether the leakers of national security information will ever be revealed. Aided by such RINO warmongers as Senator John McCain (R-AZ), the crazed Left is driving us willy-nilly toward WW III.

This is more complex than math and energy. It is about a planetary system in decline and a human civilization destabilizing. It’s an earth process and this is the problem because we can’t put an equation to something so massive. Modern humans exist because of stable climate and productive ecosystems. The process is disruptive and this disruption is just one of many that are converging threatening human systems. We are naïve and cavalier of the consequences of unfettered development and exploitation because the process is deceptive. We are slow boiling thinking everything is ok when the reality is dangerous forces are lurking below our superficial lives.

I smell a rat there, was he trying to prove just how hysterical the left has become? Its such an obviously stupid typo I have serious doubts it was by accident. Trump might be a marshmallow but he’s not ignorant or stupid. Obama signed the US up to a promise to deliver a Marshal Plan to Asia in exchange for shutting down the remainder of US industry and another promise to stop US growth, all this without the certainty that such a deal could save the Earth, which probobly won’t anyway.
