Israeli TV report shows air force gearing up for Iran attack, says moment of truth is near thumbnail

‘IAF expects losses, and knows it can’t destroy entire Iranian program’

A major Israel TV station on Sunday night broadcast a detailed report on how Israel will go about attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities in the event that diplomacy and sanctions fail and Israel decides to carry out a military strike.

The report, screened on the main evening news of Channel 10, was remarkable both in terms of the access granted to the reporter, who said he had spent weeks with the pilots and other personnel he interviewed, and in the fact that his assessments on a strike were cleared by the military censor.

No order to strike is likely to be given before the P5+1 talks with Iran resume in May, the reporter, Alon Ben-David, said. “But the coming summer will not only be hot but tense.”

In the event that negotiations fail and the order is given for Israel to carry out an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, “dozens if not more planes” will take part in the mission: attack and escort jets, tankers for mid-air refueling, electronic warfare planes and rescue helicopters, the report said.

Ben-David said the Israel Air Force “does not have the capacity to destroy the entire Iranian program.” There will be no replication of the decisive strikes on Iraq’s Osirak reactor in 1981 or on Syria in 2007, he said. “The result won’t be definitive.” But, a pilot quoted in the report said, the IAF will have to ensure that it emerges with the necessary result, with “a short and professional” assault.

Ben-David said that if negotiations break down, and Iran moves key parts of its nuclear program underground to its Qom facility, the IAF “is likely to get the order and to set out on the long journey to Iran.”

“Years of preparations are likely to come to realization,” he said, adding that “the moment of truth is near.”

Ben-David interviewed several squadron leaders, pilots and other officers. He noted that some of the IAF personnel, “it is likely, will not return from the mission.” An officer named Gilad said it would be “naive” to think there would be no losses.

The IAF is said to be worried about the advanced anti-aircraft systems that Russia has sold to countries in the region, the report said. Among those systems, the SA 17 and 22 in Syria and Iran present a challenge.

According to the report, it’s the older versions of the F-15 that can fly further than any other plane in Israel’s arsenal, and this puts them on the front line of any potential attack.

One pilot said in the report that the F-15 “is a plane with a very wide range of operation — a combination of relatively energy-efficient engines, and significant flightworthiness regarding weapons and fuel.”

The IAF has a full-sized unmanned plane, the “Eitan,” that is said to be able to fly to Iran, the report indicated. “This plane can do all that is required of it when the order is given,” a pilot said, without elaboration.

The attack, the report said, would presumably trigger a war in northern Israel, with missile attacks (presumably from the Iranian-proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon). “There will be no tranquility and peace anywhere in Israel,” Ben-David said.

This could be the first full-scale war the IAF has fought in nearly 30 years, the report stated.

Pilots had already been told where their families would be moved, away from their bases, for safety, the report said.

Anything that makes gas go higher is good for the planet.

dsula, you might have a (cynical) point here. War could smash infrastructure above the ground but leave underground resources intact. In the interest of future generations (we had fun enough) we need demand destruction NOW and near-stratospheric energy prices to get the world from the dope and kick it into cold turkey and give ‘renewables’ a market boost.

Of course everything could go awfully wrong, with our energy problems solved forever after a nuclear exchange.

Here is Pat Buchanan’s view, uttered today:

    http://lewrockwell.com/buchanan/buchanan231.html

The EU has acknowledged that Iran has the right to exploit civil nuclear energy, since they obliged themselves to all the necessary treaties, which can not said of rogue state Israel.

If Israel is foolish enough to attack and is backed by the US and EU, expect Iran te hit against oil infrastructure in the Gulf first, next to hitting Israel. This will lead to massive forced supply destruction, which is going to hurt Europe most, except Germany, which gets all it’s oil from Russia.

Cost of Star Wars defence shield: $60 billion. Speed of ballistic missile: 15,000 mph. Which makes any hope of stopping these things in an age of satnavs about as effective as shooting a water pistol up Niagara Falls. War in the Persian Gulf on the provocation of any self appointed chosen ones or some such idiotic casus belli is complete bonkers. China and Russian will get involved. Sort of Lord of the Flies on steroids with weapons. Instead of rigour mortis of petroleum: it’ll be more than terminal.

This conflict could spin out of control very easily taking the world economy with it.

This conflict has the potential of ending the post-ww2 era and overthrow all existing alliances. If the oilflow from the Gulf comes to a halt, Russia holds all the cards. They are going to have a talk with Germany and Germany will comply and leave the western camp, followed by France. The situation in Britain will be ugly as it will in Japan. When NATO breaks up, China will feel encouraged to intervene in Iran over land via Afghanistan.

Ah, yes, yet another “Israel is going to attack Iran any minute now” article. I’ve been reading these for at least 7 years, since I first started snooping around PeakOil.com. I’ve always regretted not keeping a collection of these articles to bring out for display and a few giggles each time a new one arrives.

Windmills even the boy who cried wolf eventually had a wolf show up. If they say it long enough, it is gonna be correct one of these days.

Maybe they will, mayb they wont. What is going on is the Us and its lackeys are engageing in a little free psy-ops lately. Costs nothing but a press release to saber-rattle and those have been flying pretty fast and thick recently. Trying to rattle Iran and its supporters cage some. Not like anyone here doubts the amerikans *want* to attack, its just an opporotunity has not presented itself. PO isnt crying wolf, its the Pentagon.

I don’t think Iran is rattled, DC. I think they know what they are going to do when/if it happens and it will not be pretty. I think it WILL keep the price of oil in the stratosphere and headed for outer space.

An attack on Iran could result in a retaliation of any degree, including setting the oil fields of Saudi Arabia on fire and sinking a few tankers in the Straight. Then there are the Us bases nearby.

DC says “Not like anyone here doubts the amerikans *want* to attack, its just an opporotunity has not presented itself.”

Exactly, they are looking for an excuse to attack. Possibilities:

    1. Israeli sub sinking an American carrier
    2. Another Israelie organized false flag terrorist attack like 9/11, which was used to invade Afghanistan, or that fake yellow cake uranium story, falsely implying that Iraq was working on nukes, used to invade Iraq.

    http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2005/10/19/niger-uranium-forgery-mystery-solved/

Unfortunately for the NWO conspirators now we have the internet. It needs only the accidental release of one of these hastily 80+ confiscated surveillance videos in the Pentagon vicinity, showing that the explosion that damaged the Pentagon facade, originated from the inside rather than from a non-existing plane, to set America on fire.

  12. Arthur on Wed, 18th Apr 2012 3:02 pm

I agree with Bill that Iran is far from defenseless as they control the entire north-east coast of the Gulf as well as the Straight of Hormuz, where Iraq was/is nearly landlocked. And Iran is not alone but is used as a proxy by China and Russia.

It is telling that Iran is the first official post-holocaust nation in the world. I do not think this is accidental or based in an otherwise inexplicable thirst for historic truth that has nothing to do with the history of Iran, but in reality is based on a deeper strategy, coordinated with Russia and maybe China and intended to prepare the world for a blow that will prove fatal for the moral standing of the ruling circles in the US, as the holocaust is the semi-official religion of the US. My guess is that in case of war in the Gulf and all oil-producing nations will be on fire and the subsequent halting of flow of oil will be a fact (which btw will hurt first and foremost Europe, China and Japan, not so much the US), that Russia is going to make Germany an offer it cannot refuse, namely an alliance between Germany, Russia and China in exchange for:

    1) continued oil deliveries to Germany from Russia…

as well as public statements made by Russian state officials that:

    2) the holocaust story was extracted by torture in Nuremberg by Soviet and American officials, just like the Americans extracted bogus confessions from KSM regarding 9/11
    3) the destruction of Germany was decided upon by Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill early 1939, even before the German invasion of Poland (google on “Mannerheim files S-32” or “Finland in the eye of the storm”)

In other words an alliance in return for oil and removal of all historic guilt from the Germans.

That is my prediction of how the cards are going to be played out.

  13. Arthur on Wed, 18th Apr 2012 3:19 pm

Recent statements made by Russian officials already showed a willingness of Russia to modify the official story regarding WW2:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/russia/5445161/Russia-accuses-Poland-of-starting-Second-World-War.html

This is to be seen in the light of Russian attempts to pull Germany out of the western alliance in reaction to American attempts to conquor the entire world (NWO).

  14. James on Wed, 18th Apr 2012 8:01 pm

So why is Israel even considering this fiasco? They will be losers forever. It was as if the Holocaust wasn’t enough to cause misery and death to the Jewish people. Now, they want to start something that will never end for them. Iran can and will destroy a good portion of Israel, along with the possible radioactive fallout from the nuclear sites. Add to this the whole Arab nation coming down on them along with Russia/China involvement. The latter being there to sop up the oil contracts, or just plain steal it. This will be no win situation for the bulk of the Industrialized World.

Today on LewRockwell.com, my favorite libertarian site:

    http://lewrockwell.com/douglas/douglas53.1.html

Quote: “I think the U.S. is desperately fighting its last great imperial war against the world. I think the U.S. will lose this WAR and destroy its Empire and its global financial system. Obama has become the Undertaker of the U.S. Global Empire and, if he and his desperate strategists keep attacking the world, he will be the Undertaker of the U.S. as it now exists. By all indications, they will continue to destroy the U.S. unless some greater power, perhaps a Great Awakening of the American people who would prefer not to be impoverished or torn apart by the Obama Undertaker Strategy.”

And LewRockwell.com is not even considering resource depletion. According to them it does not exist.
