Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday backed President Hassan Rouhani’s suggestion that Iran may block Gulf oil exports if its own exports are stopped and said negotiations with the United States would be an “obvious mistake”.
Rouhani’s apparent threat earlier this month to disrupt oil shipments from neighboring countries came in reaction to looming U.S. sanctions and efforts by Washington to force all countries to stop buying Iranian oil. [nL8N1TZ1BE]
“(Khamenei) said remarks by the president … that ‘if Iran’s oil is not exported, no regional country’s oil will be exported,’ were important remarks that reflect the policy and the approach of (Iran’s) system,” Khamenei’s official website said.
Iranian officials have in the past threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping route, in retaliation for any hostile U.S. action. [nL6E7NS0R1]
Khamenei used a speech to foreign ministry officials on Saturday to reject any renewed talks with the United States after President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from a 2015 international deal over Iran’s nuclear program.
“The word and even the signature of the Americans cannot be relied upon, so negotiations with America are of no avail,” Khamenei said.
It would be an “obvious mistake” to negotiate with the United States as Washington was unreliable, Khamenei added, according to his website.
The endorsement by Khamenei, who has the last word on all major issues of state, is likely to discourage any open opposition to Rouhani’s apparent threat.
Khamenei also voiced support for continued talks with Iran’s European partners in the nuclear deal which are preparing a package of economic measures to offset the U.S. pullout from the accord.
“Negotiations with the Europeans should not be stopped, but we should not be just waiting for the European package, but instead we should follow up on necessary activities inside the country (against U.S. sanctions),” Khamenei said.
France said earlier this month that it was unlikely European powers would be able to put together an economic package for Iran that would salvage its nuclear deal before November. [nL8N1U2100]
Iran’s oil exports could fall by as much as two-thirds by the end of the year because of new U.S. sanctions, putting oil markets under huge strain amid supply outages elsewhere in the world. [nL4N1UD15I]
Washington initially planned to totally shut Iran out of global oil markets after Trump abandoned the deal that limited Iran’s nuclear ambitions, demanding all other countries to stop buying its crude by November.
But it has since somewhat eased its stance, saying that it may grant sanction waivers to some allies that are particularly reliant on Iranian supplies.

The Iranian question: another potential road towards peak oil supply, albeit a rather messy one.
You gotta keep feeding the 1 trillion MIC with conflicts just to prove the value of all that hardware.
The US never forgave these darned Iranians that they had thrown the Us Shah puppet out, although the latter could every now and then ventilate edgy opinions about his imperial masters:

Interestingly, entire Eurasia (including Britain!) opposes the US here, even the allies (?) in Europe. Could cause some interesting geopolitical reconfiguration, one that could play into the hands of nasty right-wingers, like yours faithfully.

He is really fighting the deep state isn’t he?

I believe China will continue to purchase Iranian oil (for a discount) after the sanctions come into effect. What then will Trump do for plan B is the big question.

Launching a few fire crackers doesn’t count as an attack. Merely three buildings needed premature major repairs.

Sometimes I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Oval Office, as I can’t pretend to accurately know everything that goes on within the brain of DJT.
However, if you are constantly attacking the MSM, you are definitely NOT “deep state”.
If you run off to Helsinki and have a cordial meeting with the Putler of our age, you are definitely NOT “deep state”.
Estranging loyal European allies, an “alliance” (colony rather), the US had to fight WW2 for, is definitely NOT “deep state”.
Verbally attacking Iran is one of the few things DJT gets away with within the US political context. This does give Trump some interesting maneuvering space.
Now if DJT is a closet white nationalist, and I think 60-40 that he is, if I were a stinking antifa Marxist forum clown like yourself, dear millimind, I would be very prudent with premature howling that DJT is a deep state tool and I would instead wonder what he is up to.
It is the declared goal of white-nationalists/alt-right to break up the republic and start a white ethno-state on former US soil.
Despite what the likes of Richard Spencer and Greg Johnson love to claim, namely that this can be done without war…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=954I4Fl0EiA
https://www.counter-currents.com/2018/07/a-lost-interview/
…the opposite is the truth. Think hundreds of thousands, if not millions of deaths on US soil, if a real CW would break out. You only have to remember what happened in 2x million-sh countries like Yugoslavia, Iraq and Syria, with 200k-1 million deaths, to get a grasp of the horrors ahead.
Nevertheless, if you want to prevent white America from drowning in the third world, as is the intention of the deep state and deeply resented by Trump’s voter base, than you need to use the presidency of the last president of European America for some extra-ordinary measures. Like sending America on purpose into a war it will loose. If you have say 100,000 Americans killed in Iran, with no end in sight, the threshold of starting an insurrection at home will almost certainly be overcome.
And that is precisely the reason why Trump is bullying his European vassals into massive increase in defense spending… so they can eventually come to the aid of the white insurgents.
Of course I am reading things into it, the world after all, is multi-interpretabel.

“Looks like Trump is running amok with his “trading policies”. Not only has he upset the European Union – which doesn’t deserve any better, frankly, for having been and still being submissive vassals against the will of by now 90% of Europeans; but he has also managed to get China into a fury. Well, for China it is really not that important, because China has plenty of other markets, including basically all of Asia and probably increasingly also Europe, as Europe increasingly feel the need for detaching from the US….
All life is dynamic. But to understand this it takes independent thinking – which the west has long given up, unfortunately….
Since sanctions were imposed, Russia has moved from a totally import-dependent country since the collapse of the Soviet Union, to a food and industry self-sufficient nation. According to Mr. Putin, the sanctions were the best thing that happened to Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia has been the world’s largest wheat exporter for the last two years….
Europeans have started quietly to reorient their business activities towards the east. They are seeking their own ways, each one of these nations are seeking gradually to detach from the fangs of Washington, eventually detaching from the dollar dominion, because they notice businesswise the dollar-based economy is a losing proposition….
What if, considering the motion towards peoples’ new self-determination – Trump’s jumping from chaos to more chaos, to the never-ending sanction game (punishing, or threatening friends and foes alike) – will lead to a genuine de-globalization of the world?
If this were to happen then, we the 90% of the globe’s population, should be very grateful to Mr. Trump who has shown and created the path to enlightening – the enlightening of de-globalization….

Still delusional, MM? You invent the world as you want it to be, not as it really is. Too bad. You are wasting your life in lala land, instead of building a future.
This ‘collapse’ of the Us into the 3rd world could last 10 years or more. I would be surprised if it happened in the next few.
So are you going to off yourself before you find out if you could live a long, healthy, productive life? Your choice. I chose life, not oblivion.

There’s not an observer alive who really knows wtf DJT is thinking, he probobly doesn’t really know. So far the Trump Admin has been one giant f-you to Obomba. With the passing of the tax budget and probably appointment of at least 2 supreme court judges he has already achieved more legislation than Obomba. DPRK are starting to dismantle SOME of its launch facilities, but it remains to be seen how far it will go, again, more than any other potus. His trade policies will probobly suprise everyone once people realise that once a.i comes in and starts replacing services sector jobs, then international trade will be more or less limited to energy. It is actually possible to imagine de – globalisation as countries try to manage their way through the changes in technology. If you’re choice is either no job or making shoes in a factory, which you gonna choose?
Millions of fat bellied truckers will probably be looking for work to load up the trucks (they used to drive) with goods made by machines in factories that the owners only partly pay your wages (the rest paid by the state)

@Bloomer Yeah, I think that is what’s really driving this Iran-bashing; the US needs China to keep growing and the best way is to lower their energy costs. I wouldn’t be particularly surprised if the tit-for-tat tariff “trade war” with China suddenly evaporates suddenly once the Iranian sanctions kick in.

” DPRK are starting to dismantle SOME of its launch facilities,”
Oh sure, Joe. Let me guess…… straight from President Pumpkinhead’s lips to your ears.
Between when President Dump assumed office in January 2017 and the end of April, the average number of public false or misleading statements he has made per day has been increasing. According to the Washington Posts’ Fact Checkers on May 1, “for the president’s first 100 days, Trump averaged 4.9 false claims a day… since we last updated this tally two months ago, the president has averaged about 9 lies a day. Our calculations suggest that if the current escalation rate remains steady, by the end of his term the president could be making as many as nineteen public false statements a day, on average.”

Plan B is attack on Iran, I think this time is very very serious and by the way I think it is the last opportunity to stop iran ballistic program Time is on the side of Iran . Washington knows that well. I would be ugly even in the best case scenario

“I believe China will continue to purchase Iranian oil (for a discount) after the sanctions come into effect. What then will Trump do for plan B is the big question.”
PBP, why is this have to be an all or nothing binary thing? The sanction do not have to stop all the oil they are meant to stop some of the oil. This is more about individual companies than nations BTW.

The US is not going to attack Iran unless some very provocative scenarios play out. This is another thing people are constantly drumbeating. The US had a chance to attack Iran a few years back and didn’t. Israel pushed the issue hard and it didn’t happen. Why does everyone claim Trump wants war? He is trying to make peace with NK and Russia. Iran is bent on regional domination and rightly or wrongly that is provocative. Maybe Putin will ease tensions on both sides. Putin is probably the best negotiator of the 21st century and he has Trumps ear and Iran’s.

You know why I think like that , because Israel will not live in a shadow of the iranian ballistic missiles . Iran makes so many centrifuges ,it is obvious what they do , when the time come they can make a nuke in a matter of months and no one will be able to stop them. Dollar crisis is so obvious now more than ever, oil shortage looming despite shal play all pieces come to place for a showdown , lets hope I am wrong.Anyway they know more than me if they dont attack it means there is still time for bau because they like it as it is,they are full of money and this is Pericle age of human civilization ( nice to live), if they attack it means they know bau is finished something has to be done .I think bau is finished liked or not
