Iran FM confirms receipt of S-300 long-range, surface-to-air missiles from Russia

Iran FM confirms receipt of S-300 long-range, surface-to-air missiles from Russia thumbnail

Iran has received a batch of S-300 long-range, surface-to-air missile systems from Russia, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has said.

In a recorded statement broadcast on state television on Monday, Jaber Ansari, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told a news conference that the “first phase of this [delayed] contract has been implemented”.

“The first batch of Russia’s S-300 air defence missile systems has arrived in Iran,” he was quoted as saying.

Ansari was replying to reporters’ questions about videos on social media showing what appeared to be parts of an S-300 missile system on trucks in northern Iran.

In February, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that Moscow planned to soon send its first delivery of S-300 missile systems to Tehran.

That report said the systems would be transported from the southern Russian city of Astrakhan via a direct water route through the Caspian Sea to Iran.

Russia and Iran signed a contract to deliver several S-300 missile systems in 2007, but Moscow cancelled the deal because of United Nations sanctions against supplying weapons to the Islamic republic.

RIA Novosti reported that the deal had been worth about $900m.

Last year, Iran reached an international agreement on regulating its nuclear programme to remove sanctions, and Russian President Vladimir Putin then signed a decree to allow his country to sell weapons to
Iran.

Yeah well. Why shouldn’t those nutbags get ’em when our own nutbags have announced plans to intensify deployment in eastern Europe?

When will the West ever learn that the Russians (at least under Putin) are never going to just sit back and watch as the Washington Consensus springs its pathetic strategy?

Good thing Iran already signed (OK—they didn’t actually sign it, as it turned out) nuclear treaty with Obama. Otherwise the ongoing weapons and missile build-up in Iran wold be worrisome.

    Cheers!

Will this system beat Stealth Bombers, the tool of choice for regime change by America. Im sure theyll be totally useless against stealth drones. In 2007, this was good tech. Im just amazed the US hasn’t driven a truck across Iran using only an iPhone and a few guys to refuel it. Missiles, planes and ships. Seems kinda last century to me.

Good, the world needs to defend themselves against the amero-zionist empire and the endless wars they start. Russia is poised to become the go-to people for your defending yourself against ‘nato’, the uS military, and its corporate mercenaries. The S-300 is not the latest system of course, but its more than adequate to deter and destroy america’s flying fragile and delicate jets, like the F-22 and F-35, as well as all the older stuff they still use.

Anonymouscant, according to LM engineers the stealthy capability of the F22 would make it able to approach a S-300 safely to the distance of 24KM. In 2004 the Russian military manufacture said its new S-400 will be able to intercept “stealthy targets at a distance of around 90KM. The definition of stealthy was not given. I am not sure if the F22 is their S-400 capability focus.

These are to defend Iran from the B-52’s we just sent to Qatar…

joe, those being delivered are the 2015 upgraded versions and they WILL be able to take out those US toys you mentioned. It has Israel shitting their pants because they will prevent them from anymore bombing of Iranian targets of choice.

“according to LM engineers the stealthy capability of the F22 would make it able to approach a S-300 safely to the distance of 24KM.”

Nothing to worry about then, if those F22s stayed where they belong, at home. Otherwise the S-300, to the distance of 24Km, would be used as a tool of self defence.

Davy and his magical thinking. There is nothing in the periodic table of the elements that does not absorb at some collection of EM frequencies. Nothing. So any “stealth” coating will absorb and hence remit EM radiation. It is also not possible to produce an object geometry which will have zero cross section to incoming EM radiation. You can angle it all you want but unless you ensure that all incident photons are not absorbed, there will be re-radiation (not just at the incident frequencies) of incoming EM radiation in all directions (i.e. non-elastic scattering due to absorption).

The F-22 is “invisible” only to some totally obsolete 1960s radar systems operating in vary narrow EM ranges which have been engineered around. But even using the same 1960s frequencies, proper modern detectors (phased arrays based on super high gain amplifier modules from gallium nitride) will still detect the F-22. And modern “radar” systems use many more frequencies with vastly more sensitive detectors.

Stealth is for fanbois that know nothing about physics.

Hmmm.  It seems that defense is besting offense in this case.  Unless the Empire decides to up the ante by using nukes or large clouds of missiles, thereby causing a Persian counterattack against Saudi oilfields, etc., not to mention a global economic meltdown.

Poor dissy anything that threatens his Russia worship causes him to blush. Dissy, did I have an opinion one way or another? No. Just presenting some news with both sides represented. I do this routinely to fact check anti-mericants like you.

Davy, You are a completely full of shit delusional American exceptionalist incapable of thinking straight were your biases are concerned. Every memeber of this forum knows this very well, except you, apparently!

Juan, from my many years of being in Spain I met the so called European South Americans like yourself. Your group represent some of the most uptight people I have ever met. There is this attitude of self-superiority they have and you clearly exhibit constantly. They want to be treated with respect above all else because you have self-confidence issues. Your kind look down upon their Hispanic brothers with contempt. We all know at many levels South America is a failure. It is uptight European South Americans like yourself that want to blame everyone else for the failures of South America when the failures rest at your door step. We know beyond a doubt that the US caused many problems in South America but it is the Whites of South America that are ultimately responsible for all the failures.

That is you Juan in a nut shell. You are a failure. Your 1% Uruguay family is probably the typical “chip on their shoulder” South American whites. I am wondering why they sent you to the US in the 80s? Was it because you were a problem child they needed to get of balance sheet? In any case you are an example of a persona non-gratis. We do not want you here Juan. You hate the US and we hate you. So get out of our country and go home to your failed continent. You are a childish moron of the highest degree and the majority of your post reflect this. Go preach you sterilization and Russian worship somewhere else. Go spew your 1% asshole attitude from South America. I would have more respect for you if you did. As it stands now you are a hypocrite who free loads on the American people and kicks them in the teeth every chance you get.

S300, S400, these systems just seem kinda pointless. Russia was able to beat NATO hired Nazis in Ukraines by simply copying the model at platoon level and sending a couple of brigades ‘on holiday’. Isis took over syria and iraq with jeeps and beards and some cover from apache helicopters (cant say who, but sombodies)

Anyway, even if they could zap a drone, what appears to me is faith in tech is a waste. The US had lots of toys but couldnt be the ISIS 1.0 (Zarqawis Islamic State of Iraq) until the people living there threw him out. Idiots thought the US would stay and defend them. Stupid Sunni Iraqis should have had more oil then!

Davy, The fact that you don’t want me here makes me want to stay. Thank you very much for that! It is harder every day for me to want to live in your disgusting society, but I make this sacrifice for my wife because she likes her life here. People like you are the scum of the Earth. Is there any lower life form than a delusional American exceptionalist?

  16. Davy on Wed, 13th Apr 2016 8:53 am

I could give a shit Juan. You are the lowest human common denominator and that is a bag of shit. In any case you are Miami’s problem which is a disgusting place and why you live there. I wonder if when you got your nuts cut they didn’t cut them off completely because you are the board pussy.

  17. PracticalMaina on Wed, 13th Apr 2016 9:09 am

Miami may be destined to be underwater, but at least now there will be some pv to salvage. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2016/04/13/disney-flips-switch-on-new-solar-panel-array/
