The dream of many Americans is to get out of the hustle and bustle of the daily city grind. And what better dream to have then to move your family outside of city limits to the countryside so that you can grow your own food, produce your own electricity with solar power, and live outside the purview of an ever expanding government apparatus?
That was the goal for hundreds of residents living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Many own their land outright and have been living on it for decades without so much as a peep from their local government. They’ve built their homes using whatever means they had available to them. They planted their own fruits and vegetables. They even set up their own personal power production stations using solar panels and miniature wind farms.
And they’ve lived peacefully without violating the rights of those around them and leaving a very small “carbon footprint” to boot. For all intents and purposes, they achieved a life of independence and freedom.
But the tentacles of tyranny are everywhere and no one is protected from their grasp.
Recently, agents of the Los Angeles county government started paying visits to these rugged individualists. They claimed they were “here to help,” as one resident puts it. But, as is generally the case when the government comes knocking, they were there for exactly the opposite.
What was once a dream come true for many quickly turned into the new American nightmare.
Code enforcement agents for the county showed up in droves. But they didn’t come alone. Along with them came heavily armed “Nuisance Abatement Teams” who raided the homes and land of these peaceful residents as they would those of a terrorist.

(Pictured: Armored Nuisance Abatement Team – similar vehicles are in use across the United States)
The collection of rugged individualists who [want to live here] are being chased away.
…
Last year the county began performing unannounced inspections on his property.
Gallow says he cooperated with the county – clearing brush, then moving his shed, then getting rid of his motor home.
Finally, the county made a demand that shocked him.
“They told me… you have to get off the property. I said get off the property?’ They said ‘yeah, you can’t live here.’ ”
Gallow says county officials told him that neighbors, whom they would not identify, had complained about unsightly structures on his property.
He could keep his land, they told him, but would not be allowed to live on it.
“I said, for what? My closest neighbor is half a mile away. We’re not living in Beverly Hills here, this is my home. All of sudden you got police at my front door – bullet proof vests, guns, and then they surrounded the place. Everything I worked for was just melting away from me.”
“I don’t know where I’m going to go.”
Mr. Gallow is not alone. County enforcement officials with militarized Nuisance Abatement Teams in tow have made similar threats to other residents, ordering them to destroy everything on their properties and to get off their own land.
Watch this shocking, yet unsurprising account of the plight of these Americans who want nothing more than to be left alone
In the new America, everyone is criminal.

This story looks like some corporate interests want the land.

Just one more indication of how the U.S. is continuing its slide into becoming an authoritarian state where, in the “Land of the Free,” nobody really has the right to live as they please.

As we approach the end of the oil age, some institutions will find themselves more vulnerable to the impact of this change than others. Governments in the US are one of the most dependent of these. Federal, state, and local governments now take $2.7 trillion per year from the wealth of petroleum to continue their existence. Expect more draconian actions from them as the wealth pie shrinks.

In my home town property values went nuts late last century. Expats from California
bought small homes on larger lots and proceeded to demolish perfectly good houses in order to build ‘McMansions’.
In a few cases long time residents, (left over from the town’s days as a small mill town entirely dependent on lumber prices)
refused to sell-out. Eventually because taxes became intolerable, most, not all, reluctantly, became overnight millionaires.
our town is unique, in one block one might see (multi) million dollar homes
next to ‘Grandfather’s Shack’ or neat but tiny working man’s houses.
In Oregon over 65’s who can’t pay taxes
are permitted to live in place till death. (AD, property is either auctioned
off publicly or ayres pay up)
Residents bet what will last longer the shack or it’s LT owner.
My favorite story concerns two feuding
old neighbors. (shots often rang out)
These men lived alone with no living relatives. When one fell months behind on utility bills, collectors found him in bed, dead. Neighbors, knowing of the feud, went to the other old dude’s house to tell him the ‘good’ news finding him in critical condition. Taken to hospital he died the next day.
Kinda sad or funny, your choice.

Disgusting. I have some acreage and one of my neighbours has accumulated over a dozen old trailers, some old cars on adjacent land. I can’t go and whine to the “code enforcers” that his garbage dump aesthetics are offending me. Let alone have him evicted. Americans should wake up. This is not normal even here in socialist Canada.

Three year old news, been going on for a long time. When things like this happen it is usually driven by developers or corporations interested in the land.
The land of the free = you are free to leave if you pay your fines.
Citizen rights = you have the right to be told what to do

I used to visit SHTF.com and read their articles, but I eventually decided that so much of what they were posting was just a bunch of “made up” hysteria and lies intended to keep their hardcore survivalist audience hyped up to the max. There MAY BE truth to this story, but knowing SHTF.com, there probably is a whole different set of facts that go unmentioned. Just saying…
Here is a detailed and ominous set of warnings and statements from an “anonymous DHS source”, as posted on SHTF.com — typical for them. Whether the anonymous DHS agent is real or not is up to you to decide. I personally find it hard to believe:

Another note on SHTF.com: Read their articles every day for a few weeks, and you’ll notice one common threat: EVERYTHING is Obama’s fault, and he is constantly portrayed as the despicable mastermind in control of all the soon-to-be disaster that will befall America and kick of the end-of-the-world scenarios that the SHTF audience has been preparing for — no, PRAYING for, all these many years.

Well, at the present, it is not O’s fault, it is his master’s, but the tag is O. He is the puppet of the central banking cartel, nothing more. A package sold to the sheeple on the wings of hope and change. Do you like his changes?

So, NW-R, your saying SHTF.com is PrestonStuges site?
PrestonSturges on Sun, 5th Jan 2014 11:41 pm
Usually these stories have a 5 year history of serious code violations like unlicensed commercial sale of livestock (like the meat rabbit sellers who decided to mess with the USDA inspectors) or the wetlands filling (remember that couple who bought a piece of swamp and started filling in the local lake?).
Conspiracy websites latch onto people like that and make them into right wing martyrs.
PrestonSturges on Mon, 6th Jan 2014 12:19 am
That site is typical of the stories that get frontpaged here – FEMA camps, blah blah blah.
This one from the miniscule 2013 truckers protest is quite humorous:
………..A conservative group claims it has spoken to sources within the Department of Transportation who admitted plans by the feds to order armed National Guard troops to close Washington DC’s Interstate Route 495 tomorrow in order to derail a mass protest and potential blockade being organized by a group called Truckers Ride for the Constitution.
……….The sensational claim is posted on the Freedom Leadership Conference website, as well as prominent conservative blog RedState.com. The annual Freedom Leadership Conference has previously been sponsored by the likes of Judicial Watch and Human Events.
………….According to Glenn Ryt, the plan to close the route that circles the nation’s capital will be implemented on Friday morning with the aid of armed National Guard troops from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia who will use trucks, jeeps and armored vehicles to block traffic entering the Beltway.

Why be surprised if you’re violating zoning?

Sounds like LA wants to expand cheap. Why can’t they offer these people 150% of the current value of their property. Just give them a decent offer?
