Gloomy Americans foresee a downhill slide to 2050

Gloomy Americans foresee a downhill slide to 2050 thumbnail

Ask people to imagine American life in 2050, and you’ll get some dreary visions.

Whether they foresee runaway technology or runaway government, rampant poverty or vanishing morality, a majority of Americans predict a future worse than today.

Whites are particularly gloomy: Only 1 in 6 expects better times over the next four decades. Also notably pessimistic are middle-age and older people, those who earn midlevel incomes and Protestants, a new national poll finds.

“I really worry about my grandchildren, I do,” says 74-year-old Penny Trusty of Rockville, Md., a retired software designer and grandmother of five. “I worry about the lowering of morals and the corruption and the confusion that’s just raining down on them.”

Even groups with comparatively sunny outlooks — racial and ethnic minorities, the young and the nonreligious — are much more likely to say things will be the same or get worse than to predict a brighter future.

“Changes will come, and some of them are scary,” says Kelly Miller, 22, a freshly minted University of Minnesota sports management grad.

She looks forward to some wonderful things, like 3-D printers creating organs for transplant patients. But Miller envisions Americans in 2050 blindly relying on robots and technology for everything from cooking dinner to managing their money.

“It’s taking away our free choice and human thought,” she says. “And there’s potential for government to control and regulate what this artificial intelligence thinks.”

Overall, 54 percent of those surveyed expect American life to go downhill, while 23 percent think it will improve, according to a December survey from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Only 21 percent predict life will stay about the same. That minority may be onto something, however.

While no one can say what catastrophes or human triumphs are to come, contentment at a personal level has proven remarkably stable over the past four decades.

Interviews by the federally funded General Social Survey, one of the nation’s longest-running surveys of social trends, show Americans’ overall happiness as well as satisfaction with their jobs and marriages barely fluctuating since 1972. Those decades spanned the sexual revolution and the women’s rights movement, race riots and civil rights advances, the resignation of one president and impeachment of another, wars from Vietnam through Afghanistan, the birth of the home computer and the smartphone, boom times and hard times.

Despite the recent shift toward negativity about the state of the nation, the portion of U.S. residents rating themselves very or pretty happy stayed around 9 out of 10.

“Most people evaluate their lives very stably from year to year,” said Tom W. Smith, who has been director since 1980 of the GSS, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago. “You don’t want massive surges and falls in personal happiness, and the fact that we don’t see that is reassuring.”

The GSS, conducted once every two years, will send interviewers back into the field in 2014. The AP-NORC Center survey asked people to rate the change in American life during the period tracked by the GSS, from 1972 to 2012.

A majority — 54 percent — say life in America is worse today than four decades ago.

Those old enough to remember the early ’70s are especially nostalgic, as are tea party supporters and people who live in the countryside. Those who say U.S. life has declined are more apt to name politics, the economy, moral values or changes in families as the biggest difference.

The 3 in 10 who think life is better are more likely to point to computers and technology as the big change. Racial and ethnic minorities are apt to cite domestic issues, including civil rights.

The GSS offers a look at the real-time changes in American opinion, along with things that have stayed the same, and hints for the future:

Equality

Some of the opinions voiced in the 1972 survey are rarely uttered today.

Back then, nearly 4 in 10 nonblacks agreed with the idea that whites had the right to keep blacks “out of their neighborhoods.” A quarter of nonblacks said they wouldn’t vote for a black man for president, and 26 percent of all adults wouldn’t back a well-qualified woman.

Now the president of the United States is black and a woman is the most-discussed prospect for 2016. The GSS dropped those three questions in the 1990s as results began to show they were no longer contentious.

La’Shon Callaway, a 19-year-old political science student at Stockton College in New Jersey, is optimistic that his generation will make the future brighter and that he’ll see discrimination fade over his lifetime.

“People are getting tired of it, and fed up,” said Callaway, who is black. “They’re realizing even if you’re not the same color as me, you’re still a person and I’m still a person.”

As 2050 approaches, one central component of U.S. race relations will change: Non-Hispanic whites will no longer make up the majority of the population, according to Census Bureau projections.

Love and family

In 1972, the sexual revolution was ablaze. That year the Supreme Court ruled that unmarried couples had a right to birth control. “The Joy of Sex” manual was published. And then there’s “Maude,” the sitcom character who shocked Americans by getting an abortion.

Still, a third of Americans back then disapproved of a woman working if she had a husband to support her. The GSS no longer bothers asking that one.

Americans today are more worried about divorce and the increasing number of never-married moms. Nearly 4 out of 10 women who gave birth in 2011 were unmarried, according to the census.

“It’s very sad to me,” says Christine Hicks, 57, of Nashville, Tenn., who divorced when her two children were teens. “It’s really hard to be a parent when you’re alone.”

Despite the social turmoil, 98 percent of married people today say their union is happy, including two-thirds who are “very happy.” And marital fidelity remains an ideal endorsed by nearly all Americans.

The political debate over abortion shows no signs of being resolved, more than 40 years after Roe vs. Wade. Young people today are somewhat more conservative on the issue than middle-aged Americans.

Gay marriage, on the other hand, appears headed toward future acceptance. Young people are solidly in favor, while opposition is strongest among the oldest Americans.

God

Through those decades of moral tumult, the vast majority of Americans held onto belief in God or some higher power. Fewer than 1 in 10 say there’s no God or no way to know.

Yet ties to organized religion are slipping.

Since 1972, the number of Americans who name no faith preference has quadrupled to 20 percent.

“Maybe it just means people are thinking for themselves and not following blindly,” says Hicks, a Tennessee state worker and Methodist churchgoer. “But I do think the church gives families a foundation.”

Money

Recession, a stock market crash, runaway inflation and an oil crisis marred the U.S. economy in the early 1970s. Forty years later, those look like the good times to many.

Before the Great Recession hit in 2007, most people consistently said their family finances were getting better instead of worse. That’s not the case anymore. Americans are more likely to consider themselves “lower class” than ever in GSS history — 8 percent say that.

“You read every day about ‘no more middle class’,” says Bill Hardy, 67, a Westerville, Ohio, investment adviser. “It’s the poor versus the rich almost.”

Whites are especially pessimistic about their prospects. Black and Hispanic optimism surged after Barack Obama became the first black president in 2008.

Overall, about half of Americans still believe their children will have a better standard of living than they do.

“I just think they’re going to have to deal with a lot,” Hardy, who is white, said of his grown children and three grandkids. “They’ll deal with it. Kids today are very smart.”

Rule number one in the development of a society is that the future can be read from the state of mind today. The French revolution did not happen by accident, but was prepared by minds like Diderot and the aspirations of the rising bourgeois class, well in advance. The ‘let them eat cake’ episode was merely the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The 20th century was the century of communism, but that did not happen out of the blue either. The entire 2nd half of the 19th century was one big preparation for that communist century.

And now there is the US and the ‘gloomy Americans’. They are gloomy because they instinctively know what is coming, and no, it is not about ‘peak oil’. Some quote highlights:

Whites are particularly gloomy: Only 1 in 6 expects better times over the next four decades… I worry about the lowering of morals and the corruption and the confusion that’s just raining down on them… groups with comparatively sunny outlooks — racial and ethnic minorities… Changes will come, and some of them are scary… As 2050 approaches, one central component of U.S. race relations will change: Non-Hispanic whites will no longer make up the majority of the population… Whites are especially pessimistic about their prospects. Black and Hispanic optimism surged after Barack Obama became the first black president in 2008.

Of course there is a reason why whites are more gloomy than non-whites: the future belongs to the latter and the former are (supposed to) going to pay for it and pretend that they like to be the new (wage) slaves. The whites know that white America is gone for ever and that every American city sooner or later will become what is Detroit, Baltimore, Camden, etc., etc., today. And at some point they are going to revolt. And that moment will probably coincide with the fall of the dollar, initiated by China and supported by the rest of the world.

The idea that the ‘downhill slide’ is going to last until 2050 is an illusion. 2020 is more likely.

Everybody knows that many Africans or Arabs or Indians are keen to live in the West, in order to escape their own society created by their own people. But by migrating they keep their identity and carry a little bit of their own miserable society with them into the West, making the latter a little more miserable with every invader/gate crasher.

Two days ago, one of the most important dissident movements in the US, the Libertarians, basically moved quietly over to the ‘white nationalist’, separatist position:

    http://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/01/fred-reed/the-pursuit-of-forced-amity/

The Libertarians never cared much about the US empire, so it is no surprise that they are the first. Expect the Tea-party to be next, once they fully understand that the days of US global hegemony are over for ever and that the only role for them left is to become the paymasters for the invaders. As a last move, the Republican Party will morph into the White Party, just like commie Milosevic turned Serb nationalist, once he understood that the days of the communist empire were numbered.

Obviously, anti-white Zionist run Washington will not let it’s goose with the golden eggs escape without a fight.

Arthur, you belong in a fricken museum, alongside memorabilia from slavery, the US Civil War and the Ku Klux Klan.

Meanwhile, here in the real world, we recognize that people of color are human beings, just like the rest of us.

Despite some misguided optimism (the next generation “will deal with it”),if 5 out of 6 Americans see 2050 as being tougher than today, maybe they’re not all as brain-dead as some of us thought.

  5. Arthur on Sat, 4th Jan 2014 12:43 pm

Arthur, you belong in a fricken museum, alongside memorabilia from slavery, the US Civil War and the Ku Klux Klan.

Sure, war does not happen, never. Czechs don’t want to live with Slovaks, FLamish not with Walloons, Sunnis not with Shi’ites, Serbs not with Croats or Muslims and Hutu’s don’t want to be suppressed by Tutsi’s. The whole world one big happy gathering… until the buck stops and the joint explodes.

But Beery, you think that the Scots will continue to want to live with you English in 2015?

Here are the results just in from Beery’s Britain and his relentless push to mix everything together until… well it explodes (Britain 2011):

In fact, Britain is the only country of the formerly white world that I would lOVE to see become the new El-Andaluz, so it can never assault continental Europe ever again. Londinistan is already there. Beery and Mike are working overtime until the last Briton is erased from history. Anything else would be racist and Beery, Mike and Arthur are glad that Beery and Mike are not like that. Carry on folks!

what will happen? Standard of living in the west will decline till immigration from the 3rd world is no real benefit anymore (to the immigrant). Then Europe over generations will form a new homogenous culture with pockets of hard-core muzzies in some places.
Since Christinity in Europe is pretty much dead what do non muzzies have to fight and die for? Not much I fear, maybe the freedom to shop whenever they want? But being brainwashes since childhood that multi-culti is good and every foreign culture is worth more than your own doesn’t help.

The US on the other hand will slowly turn into a mish-mash of Mexican culture. Cities with > 70% Mexicans already look like mexico in any respect, except the architecture of the buildings. Music, food, language, people, festivities, choice of cars etc. It’s mexico.

Gloomy Americans, taken all together as a whole, are not the brightest bunch of light bulbs in the box. But they certainly must sense the fact that the world is quickly running out of resources, that economic growth is grinding to a halt as a result, and that the lives their parents and grandparents enjoyed is fading into the rearview mirror rapidly, with nothing but stark burning desert looming in the distance. 2050?! You gotta be kidding me. If the Gloomy Americans could get a clue, they would know that this charade that we call the global economy will never last until 2050, or even ten more years for that matter. The entire existence of humanity, not just “Gloomy Americans” is standing on a sheet of razor-thin ice. But let’s not talk about just Gloomy Americans. People in China, Egypt, the EU, Libya, Africa — the entire world, have every reason to be gloomy. If YOU aren’t gloomy about future prospects in this world, then its because you don’t have a clue. But beyond the gloom, for those who mentally and physically prepare, there is a glimmering light of what MIGHT BE, a hope for humanity in a new world where the survivors have come to terms with nature and sustainability. My wish is for me and my loved ones and friends to make it to that other side, and for others who are smart enough and determined enough to prepare now to make it also.

Arthur: with a name like yours talkin’ that much smack about Great Britain? I’m disappointed and as a Canadian with a Queen’s Comission on my wall as well as many American relatives south of the border, here’s a new-worlder who must come to the defence of the old – England managed her retreat from empire vastly more successfully and with far greater grace then the US is. It’s embarrassing really. Sun Tsu prattled on about the folly of trying to be strong everywhere, but his fortune cookie wisdom was right: you’re burning yourself out faster then you need to by shedding blood over indefencable political and military positions. And the desperation overseas that’s leading to self-defeating BS like drone strikes (OK: RAF 1920’s – they tried it to) and insanity like the NSA a.k.a. Ministry of Thought is shredding the amazing contributions to global civilization that the the US has made. Just relax and go quietly into that night on that path that must be taken.

Somebody wrote: “But by migrating they keep their identity and carry a little bit of their own miserable society with them into the West, making the latter a little more miserable with every invader/gate crasher.” But the truth is far different. The immigrants who come to America tend to work hard, persevere and improve their lives and the lives of their children substantially, as well as the lives of those they love back in their country of origin because they are able to earn money and send it back to the “fatherland”. To claim that immigrants as a whole make America or “the west a little more miserable with every invader/gate crasher” is a subjective statement from an individual who has proven him/herself to be a biased moron with every ranting post splattered on this site.

Hugh says: Arthur: with a name like yours talkin’ that much smack about Great Britain? The only thing that is embarrassing is your lack of historical knowledge. Britain was TOLD by the US to dismantle it’s empire, so the US could take over, albeit with a less imposing structure.

    http://members.tripod.com/american_almanac/FDRlw95.htm

Britain never intended to abolish empire, certainly not Chamberlain and actually neither did Churchill, but the latter saw no problem in risking it… and lost.

The second half of your post (from Sun Tsu) actually makes sense on all points.

Then we have Northwest Resident whining: To claim that immigrants as a whole make America or “the west a little more miserable with every invader/gate crasher” is a subjective statement from an individual who has proven him/herself to be a biased moron with every ranting post splattered on this site.

Oh many do indeed, but why must a nation solely be defined in economic terms? And you have to be a self-deluding moron yourself if you try to deny that the decline of the average American city has everything to do with mass immigration over the past decades. And it is going to get worse with every passing year.

dsula says: The US on the other hand will slowly turn into a mish-mash of Mexican culture. Cities with > 70% Mexicans already look like mexico in any respect, except the architecture of the buildings. Music, food, language, people, festivities, choice of cars etc. It’s mexico.

The difference between Mexico and the US is that Mexico has always been, well: Mexico. That cannot be said of the US. They put a man on the moon in 1969, there are all these Hollywood movies around that show how America was until fairly recently. And people will start to ask where that decline comes from. And they will come up with answers. I don;t think that Middle America is ready to become the next Brasil.

And than French Bob adds: For me at least, it would be more interesting to comment on points in the article rather than on the village agitator.

Bob can’t resist the temptation to score a cheap PC point with the usual sneer and actually avoiding debate. The decline if not the Death of the West is the logical conclusion of there being too many Beery’s and Bob’s around. Besides, Bob is totally ignoring that his own country has the oldest and largest nationalist party in Europe that could be on the verge of a breakthrough with the next European election. For the record, I am not 100% fan of Marine Le Pen, because I am afraid that, although she could halt Muslim immigration to France (which is good), she also could bring back anti-German resentment, blow up the EU and euro and bring Europe back to a 1914-ish situation.

The idea that turd world economic migrants ‘improve’ the western countries they drift to is a quaint idea, but it has little basis in truth. Even though (some) migrants work hard, which is true enough, they do arent doing it for ‘Canada’ or ‘amerika’ or ‘Australia’, where-ever. They doing it for themselves, just like us. All they do is defraud the taxpayers, create new ethnic criminal gangs, and further accelerate environmental decline by purchasing the toxic, plastic lifestyle of mighty whitey.

If turd-world immigrants were so bloody awesome, we would have torn down suburbia, rebuilt the rail system, kicked out the US corporations, broke up the mega banks, and stopped eating factory ‘food’. In fact, none of these things are happening. So clearly, however ‘awesome’ people think paki, african, or asian immigrants are, they are definately NOT over here to help us correct our many mistakes and mal-investments. If anything, they are just along for the ride and making things worse. While its true we need to start acting more like them in SOME respects, that doesnt mean we need to import hundreds of million of them as examples to live by. We are just as capable of living frugally and more socially as any third worlder.

We all used to be(basically) 3rd worlders until a century ago or so ago, at the current rate, we all will be again in less than another century. None of those economic alien migrants are going to be any help averting whats coming. And when it does, theyll just standing around with there hands in there pockets moaning about how all the 7-11s are now closed.

I’m always amazed at the predictable stupidity and madness of the racists and black man blamers.

The racist garbage is always screaming about Men on the Moon and non-white immigrants, and stealing “our jobs” and their superior culture.

But, the facts don’t back any of this nonsense.

If putting a man on the moon was so great, why did no one ever return? Why is NASA being defunded? Why not brag about building sand castles or surfing? Oh, wait, the racist idiot does.

Immigrants don’t care about living with racist trash. It is the racist trash who wage continuous war in Africa and the Middle East and other non-white countries that causes all their misery.

But the racist never takes responsibility for the millions they murdered in wars against brown and black people in Guatemala, Honduras, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, the Congo, South Africa, and on and on…. all to steal their resources and productive capacity.

The racist filth can not accept that the world is a mess because Europe and the United States made it a mess.

If Europe and the United States don’t want immigration, then don’t send racist trash to black and brown countries. Remove all European and American presence from Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, Central and South America.

Immigrants won’t come to the pure racist lands of West Asia (Europe) and the United States, because there is no reason to do so. Black and brown people will live in peace in their own lands without racist maniacs and genocidal ethnic cleansing from American and European planes, tanks, and bombs. No more Hollywood, brain-rotting TV, worthless sports, self-important conspicuous consumption, the culture of self-worship, and the doomed car culture.

Then, again, the racist trash whines about immigrants in the Western Hemisphere when they immigrated from West Asia (Europe) because they ruined Europe.

Why don’t you racist scum go back to your racist paradise in West Asia? Or, would the racist scum starve without the food and fuel they steal from Africa?

You are so expert at telling everyone else their business. Why not take your own advice and go back where you came from?

But, of course, racist garbage never has to move for anyone else. Everyone is supposed to move for them… because they are racially superior. It is never their responsibility. It is never their fault. They are never the problem. It is always everyone else.

Then, this same racist filth wonders why West Asia and the United States are doomed. Look in the mirror. This is what you get when racist trash are in charge. The racist filth will ruin your lands and their own lands, leaving no place for anyone to live.

The United States was begun as a slave state. It was NEVER a FREE country. The United States has always been a slave state, in one form or another.

The founding fathers were fascists who created a nation as a private, little club, for the rich English males, with special rules for themselves, and a Central Bank, to terrorize black people and commit mass murder against the original inhabitants (Natives)… stealing land and labor.

The United States has always been, and always will be a force of destruction on this planet toward the Earth and mankind.

The Earth needs to heal from the racist monsters that are destroying its ability to support human life.

That is what the racists have brought to this 3rd rock from the sun.

  15. Northwest Resident on Sat, 4th Jan 2014 5:35 pm

Arthur, you are a world class moron. “decline of the average American city has everything to do with mass immigration over the past decades”. But nothing to do with increase in energy prices or scarcity of natural resources? Was I whining, or are you yourself an insufferable whiner who merely projects your own traits onto others? I’m done bantering with such a fool as you have repeatedly proven yourself to be. Keep plastering your idiocy here for my and others’ amusement. You serve as a prime example of the worst that humanity has to offer.

Immigrants won’t come to the pure racist lands of West Asia (Europe) and the United States, because there is no reason to do so.

    That’s a deal then.

(The truth alas, will be vastly different)

BTW, here is black guy I actually really like. In this 10 minute rant every statement he makes is a home run. He, thank God, feels comfortable being black and there is no reason why he should not. He wants to carry his own existence and looks as if he can:

While I am all for the brotherly love of the peoples and equality, the reality is not some politically correct fairy tale. There have been interesting trends here in Canada in terms of the nature of our bureaucracy as it gets slowly transformed into a south Asian variant. It’s a fact that immigrants bring their cultural issues with them. Some of this is not important, but some of it is. For example, honour killings.

  19. stilgar wilcox on Sat, 4th Jan 2014 8:09 pm

I think asking a question with the year 2050 in it is extremely optimistic, when in reality it should have been asked what will happen by 2020-2025? At the current rate of borrowing and QE stimulus, along with a huge divide sepearating the rich & poor, it looks like end game followed by chaos, then the hardiest, young survivors growing organic produce and working the farm animals in communes.

If BAU can be sustained longer it will be astounding as to how that occurred.

  20. noobtube on Sat, 4th Jan 2014 8:16 pm

So, if it’s a deal, when is the racist garbage headed back to West Asia (Europe), the racist paradise?

Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Doha, Tripoli, Harare, Lagos, Kinshasa, Bangkok (just a few cities) certainly don’t need racist garbage, nor their self-important attitudes.

I’m quite sure all the Africans and other immigrants in Europe would gladly leave those dreary, polluted, irradiated, war-mongering, geriatric, crowded, cold spots in West Asia (Europe) to other lands where they can have their own skyscrapers, laws, and culture, without racist insanity.

Just convince your fellow racist scum to go back where they started, in West Asia (Europe). That way the racist scum can kill each other to decide who is racially superior without terrorizing humanity (or the rest of the Earth).

The world will be a happier place when the racist garbage are banished/confined to West Asia (Europe).

You can have all the Hitlers/Mussolinis you want.

I agree with Stilgar and Northwest Resident, I have absolutely no faith in this mess continuing on much past about 2025.

Judging from the racial intollerance and bigotry portrayed even here on PO, I am really glad that my plan is to be as far away from ‘civilization’ as possible.

The rest of you can go and kill each other off, for all I care. My plan is to learn how to get along with others, and I could care less what the color of their skin is. That being said, I am not overly proud of my (white) heritage. We really have been the blight of this Earth.

Gloom about the future is noot confined to the USA. Throughout the developed world, the same problems confront the rising generations: a higher % of population aged and edpending on a decreasing % of young; youth unemployment; housing too costly for young couple to buy; risding college fees; crisis in the national systems of health provision; suburban sprawl and increasing fuel costs; declining birth rates; rising levels of obesity, diabetes, alcholism; falling educational standards; distrust of the political classes; environmental degradation; and more and more and more. This solipsistic article, by implying that “decline” is uniquely confined to the US give the persons above the opportunity to rant mindless abuse safe behind the anonymity of the internet. No – one uses mindless abuse, which is harmless and forgiveable; the other, with his intellectual pretensions vomits far more insidious abuse. His worst crime, however, is that he that brevity is the soul of wit. HE IS FUCKING BORING.

2050 is a long time. the limits to growth study suggests the 2030s as the decade when the-shit-finally-hits- the-fan – when the impossibility called industrial civilization finally reaps the whirlwind of consequences on this finite planet. and we are certainly on target because what we have is a business as usual, full steam ahead, exponential happy motoring race to oblivion via resource exhaustion and the very worst case climate change scenario. in light of this its ridiculous to be worried about what we are trained to think are ‘bad things’ in times of oil abundance, like unemployment. ’employment’ is a fossil fuel phenomenon. it is not normal. people will have plenty to do by then just scraping out an existence, if they are lucky to be alive at all. by 2050, the world is going to be a far different place. the type of pessimism being shown is actually more like happy optimism in relation to the scale and type of changes that will inevitably happened by 2050.

What the hell do I care who’s superior, niggers or crackers. But I care about the loss of my culture and traditions. If I can’t feel home anymore in my own town I grew up in, there’s something wrong.

noobtube, BRAVO!!!! You pounded the racist spike in all the way and I totally agree! I’m saving your comment to re-read the next time I need to be reminded that there are some non-racist people out there that share my views.

I have friends of all colors and races and cannot tell them apart if I close my eyes. I understand the direction they come from in life and it’s relationship to my own. We ALL live and share this planet but Whites want to own it and screw the rest. I believe that their day is coming to pay for that arrogance, and soon.

And, yes, I am a white American but, as such, I am also sure there is all races represented in my genes from somewhere over the last 14 generations my family lived in North America and certainly over the last milennia.

If the blacks and browns are destined to take over, I say that’s good! Even if they try, I doubt they can fuck things up as badly as we whites have during the last 200 years.

Hey, maybe the inheritors of our “culture” will line up the racist scum up against a wall and apply Rule .303, which is something we whites should have done, but never found the nerve to do.

Beery as the new Friday, a fascinating spectacle. Hopefully the angelic blacks and browns are going to be as nice to Beery as the other way around. Don’t hold your breath judging on experiences in South-Africa, Zimbabwe and Britain-2011. But in the case of Britain, I am all for it and do indeed wholehartedly support the takeover by the blacks and browns. The sooner the better.

Judging from the comments it becomes obvious that Anglosphere is ready to commit suicide. The crash that is immanent will come deservedly. When nobody stands up for his own civilization than you don’t deserve that civilization.

China, make your move and pull the plug from under the dollar and let the show begin. Europe will pick up the ten million or so north-Americans who still want to be European and are able to meet European standards and let the rest, well, whatever. You can have it noob, preston. Good luck with it. I think Europe is better off joining SCO. Russians and Chinese would not dream of committing suicide as a civilization, unlike the nihiliistic Anglos, who no longer can carry their own weight and are desperate for lower standards. I think this whole peak oil doomer cult is just an excuse for many here to abandon industrial civilization. Too much work. You want brown standards. Well than, that is what’s coming to you. You have been on top too long, enjoy the ride downwards. Hiiiihaaaa.

Northwest resident “Arthur… “decline of the average American city has everything to do with mass immigration over the past decades”. But nothing to do with increase in energy prices or scarcity of natural resources?”

Why don’t you have a look at this eye-opening list of cities ranked according to quality of living:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_Quality_of_Living_Survey

Top ten contains seven European, one European-Australian, one European-New-Zealand and one Asian-European Canadian. There are no African cities in the top, so why would there be American or British cities in the top? Energy prices and resources obviously have nothing to do with it. In fact, due to the dollar reserve currency, energy prices are much, much lower in the US (not much longer). So we must assume this list is racist. If I were you, I would go to the Mercer office, bang with your pink handbag on the table and demand affirmative action for American cities. Otherwise commissar Beery will apply rule .303 (whatever that may be) and will shoot the racists from Mercer on the spot.
