Gazprom gas deal with China nearly ready

Public Policy

Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky said on Monday a long-awaited deal for natural gas producer Gazprom (GAZP.MM) to supply China with gas was close to completion.

“We hope that the negotiations will be completed as scheduled,” Yanovsky told reporters, a little more than a week before President Vladimir Putin visits China. “The contract is, I would say, 98 percent ready.”

Gazprom, Russia’s top natural gas producer, has been in talks on gas supplies to China for over a decade. In April, it said it was aiming to finalize the deal this month.

Well, Russia finally “dropped trousers” to China. This deal has been in the works for a long time but China’s terms where to steep for the Russians. I guess that is the price of buying friendship because that is what the isolated Russians are doing. It fits in perfectly with the Chinese behavior of exploiting countries in desperation and disorder. This behavior will bite China in the ass just witness the Ukraine, Venezuela, and Sudan.

Isolated? Really? How do you figure that?

Russia is tied to many countries by trade and associations. Over 1/3 of world trade and 1/2 of world population through BRICS(A). That it is turning East is no surprise. Russia and China teaming to take down the US is the result of the stupidity of the DC Mafia and brainless State Department reps like Kerry and Clinton.

Brics aren’t shit Mak, just google the info and the math. The brics are a basket case collection of “want-a-be powers that are inept and impotent. The real action is among the G7 so sorry bud your fantasy is clouding your interpretations of the global reality MAKster.

I have been working (today) with people from the BRIC economies. I guarantee you if they thought their Gov. was trying to wage an economic war with the USA they would be deeply unhappy.
The truth is the BRICs want to (and one day will) be in the G7.
    No political agenda, just business.

Exactly Simon, business trumps politics most of the time when all is said and done. That is why this Ukraine crisis is so dangerous. It has the potential to disturb the present global economic order Brics and G7 rely upon for normal economic activity. Everyone is in a pickle at the moment. There are no groups or countries that are healthy by historic standards because the whole global system is unhealthy.

Davy – Exactly…it’s all about horse trading…nothing personal and not political…usually. But the Ukraine situation has brought that component to the trading table IMHO. Just my guess but all the chatter about sanctions and reducing the need for Russian NG by the EU helped the Chinese push Russia towards the terms they demanded. We all know how dependent Russia is on their fossil fuel exports. Like many exporters the volume shipped can be more important then the price…especially when it comes to long term contracts.
