China, Japan heading towards war, says US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta

China, Japan heading towards war, says US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta thumbnail

CHINA and other Asian countries could end up at war over territorial disputes if governments keep up their “provocative behaviour”, US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta has said.

Speaking to reporters before arriving in Tokyo on a trip to Asia, Mr Panetta appealed for restraint amid mounting tensions over territorial rights in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

“I am concerned that when these countries engage in provocations of one kind or another over these various islands, that it raises the possibility that a misjudgment on one side or the other could result in violence, and could result in conflict,” Mr Panetta said, when asked about a clash between Japan and China.

“And that conflict would then have the potential of expanding.”

The Pentagon chief’s trip coincides with an escalating row between Asia’s two largest economies over an archipelago in the East China Sea administered by Tokyo under the name Senkaku and claimed by China under the name Diaoyu.

ensions have steadily mounted since pro-Beijing activists were arrested and deported after landing on one of the islands in August. Japanese nationalists then followed, raising their flag on the same island days later.

On Tuesday, Japan announced it had nationalised three of the islands in the chain, triggering protests in China. Tokyo already owns another and leases the fifth.

The uninhabited islands are in important sea lanes and the seabed nearby is thought to harbour valuable mineral resources.

Sometimes violent demonstrations have been held in China near diplomatic missions in the days since Tokyo’s announcement, although there have been no reports of deaths or serious injuries.

Hong Kong broadcaster Cable TV showed footage of clashes on Sunday in Shenzhen between riot police and demonstrators, with some holding a banner calling for a “bloodbath” in Tokyo.

Mr Panetta is due to hold talks on Monday with his Japanese counterpart, where the dispute is expected to top the agenda, before heading to China, then New Zealand.

Territorial disputes in the South China Sea also have Washington worried, as China has refused to withdraw claims to virtually all of the strategic waterway and has been accused of bullying smaller states in the area.

The Philippines and Vietnam have alleged Beijing has used intimidation to push its claims in the South China Sea, through which about half of the world’s cargo passes.

More propaganda from the Empire, which is extremely guilty of all of the above. Perhaps the Empire is worried because if a war breaks out, it will spill over into the US and destroy the economy…even more than the Feds are destroying it…and the Empire will crumble. Remember, Australia is now a western puppet like Europe. Suspect any ‘news’ from down under. The Empire wants war, but under it’s terms and timing.

Japan is in a predicament with it’s out of control nuclear plants emitting radioactive poisons into the air and seas. What does it plan to do to fight China? Oh, I know, the U.S. will step in and do the fighting for them. The U.S. and Japan have a treaty that forbids Japan from having a standing military like it had before WWII. So, what is Japan doing to do for weapons? Japan would be wise to stand down and negotiate the ownership and use of those islands. The U.S. needs to get out and leave the situation alone.

The U.S. won’t be able to stop China taking over the oil in the South China sea…they’ll just stop buying our bonds and we’ll turn the other way…

Ruppert has been pretty spot on. It’s a shame he has gone utterly loopy and is now talking about mayans and UFOs. …but maybe he’s right? 😉

Here is a second path along which the US could be drawn into war with China, apart from Iran. Japan is not a member of NATO but still an ally of the US.

A few days ago the US announced it is going to modernize it’s nukes for, out of the top of my head, 235B$. Apparently the FED amazingly has not run out of paper yet. For this money the US could install 235 * 1000 * MW windenergy, or the equivalent of 235 standard 1000 MW powerstations, more than enough to solve the US impending energy problems. Is not the empire wonderfull?

Gee, I thought that Arthur was going to go off on one of his antisemitic rants and blame the coming Chinese/Japanese war on the Jews.

Never heard of Alan Cecil before on this blog. So Israel is throwing the US before the bus and set the rest of the world on fire, but we should shut up about it, right Alan? Shalom Alan. Enjoy your view from the top of the world as it is not going to last much longer. Count Dracula had to go back to his coffin before dawn as he could not stand the light. tan…I think you are correct, but China does not need weapons. They can sell the trillion dollars in US Treasuries that they hold and bring down the Empire. The fact that they also have weapons that will hold the Empire at bay if necessary is only an added plus. And, yes, Japan is a thorn in China’s side since their invasion decades ago.

The anti-Japanese sentiment in China is nation-wide and as such pretty scary. Chinese are extremely nationalist and for this reason alone impossible to integrate in any kind of NWO Washington might dream about. Wonder how long it will take until the Japanese will decide to have nukes of their own to protect them against the Chinese? China can be easily contained by a coalition of EU, Russia and the US (majority white and sort of christian). But the Lobby is not interested in this sort of containment and in stead wants it all. The potentially catastrofic result for the US population is that because of the policy of the Lobby, they are going to be confronted by both China and Russia, in a situation were additionally Russia owns Germany as well via 100% fossil fuel dependence, which could force Europa to swap sides as well. A total unnecessary situation, where Russia would much prefer to be an ally of both Europe and a non-imperial US. The most likely outcome will be a military confrontation between the US and China, either over Iran, or Japan or both. Won’t be long until many posters here under 50, or their children, will be called to arms.

A war between China and Japan over these islands would be the first war openly fought over resources. Many more of these kind of wars are to be expected.
