BP will pay a record criminal penalty to resolve some of its liability for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in a deal to be announced by the U.S. Justice Department as soon as Thursday, a source told Reuters.
The source familiar with discussions did not disclose the actual amount of BP’s payment but said it would be the largest criminal penalty in U.S. history. That record is currently held by Pfizer Inc, which paid a $1.3 billion criminal fine in 2009 for marketing fraud connected to its Bextra pain medicine.

Since the ‘fine’ for the Exxon Valdez still has not been paid after 20 years, why should we believe that BP is actually going to pay anything? My guess is that it never will, after destroying the livelihood of thousands of Gulf Residents and polluting the best shrimp area in North America, not to mention all the other fish it is killing even today.

Yea and a monetary fine is meaningless when what they’re producing is the real currency.

BP will never a pay of dime of that ‘fine’. Since the oil-auto cartel IS the govt of the US of Pollution, why would they fine themselves? Makes no sense does it. Now maybe, it will deemed for the sake of maintaining the fiction that the US actually has a civil, independent govt, that BP will be ‘ordered’ to transfer some funds from itself, to the ‘official’ US govt. But then, all that will happen later on when no is looking, is the money will simply be transferred back to BP again.
The books will stay balanced.
OR it could just be that BP will simply never even have to do that much and will simply ignore any rulings. Just like Exxon chose to ignore its 1/2 billion dollar fine for Valdez so many years ago. Which btw, its worth pointing out is still contaminated to this day.

When are they going to pay the $1,000 per barrel per day spill fine? Isn’t that like 80 billion?
