Scottish Town Blacked out to save energy

Scottish Town Blacked out to save energy thumbnail

Towns and villages across Aberdeenshire could soon be blacked out under plans to cut energy costs.

Street lights could be dimmed during the early hours, while other lights on the outskirts of settlements may be removed completely.

The move comes after a pilot carried out by Aberdeenshire Council indicated that most residents were supportive of introducing the scheme across the region.

Should be a worldwide requirement. If you ever fly over any country at night, there are far too many lights and too much energy waste, especially in the US.
I think blackouts will become more and more common in the years ahead as cities and towns and even homes cut use because of shrinking budgets.

    BillT –

Blackouts will not solve anything. They will just make the population mad if their lights go out on purpose every night. Funny how you mention ‘flying’ over a country and thinking how much energy is wasted with all those lights. Flying uses much more energy and is more polluting than electricity. Blackouts just prove a failure by the government.

But hey at least we re-elected a president that wants to make electricity prices “skyrocket”

    This is a good idea.

After energy usage bonanza conservation and frugality will be a norm. It will come by itself. We will even go overboard with it as we do with virtually everything. But is it possible to overdo frugality?

The US has gotten use to cheap unlimited electrcity. You take that away from them and the darkies and Mexicans will come rape your daughter.

And the dirty jews won’t be able to count their money.

    You can’t save energy.

The money you save on street lights need to be spent otherwise. At the end it will always be spent for energy.

Street lighting and advertisements should be reduced around the world. This is such a waste of energy and money. There are too many lights on at 2 am. Unless the business is open at 2 am there should a reduction in lighting. The remaining lights that are left on should all be LED’s in order to reduce energy consumption.

Ah, so much anger at turning out the lights. You are not old enough to remember when lights were mostly used to light homes and businesses and not streets and intersections. Not millions of billboards and parking lots. I do.

There simply will not be enough money to pay to keep the lights on. That includes that big one in your driveway to scare away the boogie men. Adjust.

Bring on that magic road material that generates energy by autos driving over it during the daylight busy periods and release the stored energy at night….

The electric bill is just that, a bill, it is not free even for cities and counties. Local taxpayers are paying for it. Turn the lights off, save money and save energy.

……and see the stars instead of an obnoxious orange glow everywhere.
