Saudi Arabia Just Killed The Petrodollar Right In Front Of Our Eyes

The last 24 hours have marked another major waypoint along the path to my long-held contention that Russia, China and Saudi Arabia are going to make a massive, collective push to try and dethrone the U.S. dollar as global reserve currency.

Anybody who has read my 23 Stocks To Watch For 2023 (or any of my other recent articles discussing how I am personally positioning myself for this thesis) knows that I believe we are on the precipice of an unprecedented era geopolitically.

Put simply, I believe there is a historic divide in the making between the BRICS nations, led by Russia and China, and the West, led by the United States.

I was one of the few outlets last summer to even report on the fact that Russia and China openly announced a “new global reserve currency” (announced in July 2022, predicted by me in February 2022). And of course, Russia and China can’t do it on their own: they are working with nations like Saudi Arabia and India to help put their plans into practice.

Crucial to dethroning the U.S. dollar would be the removal of its use for buying and selling oil – a system that has been in place since the 1970s when the U.S. promised security for the Saudi Kingdom in exchange for the petrodollar system that underpins the dollar’s strength as global reserve currency. It’s a topic that I discussed at length back in September with Andy Schectman on this podcast.

Andy told me back in September 2022: “The dollar hegemony is right about ready to break when you realize that Saudi Arabia is about to join the BRIC nations. Do you think Biden is going to fly there to ask for more oil? He went there to beg them not to join BRIC.”

“The dollar was made reserve currency only because of our protection of the Saudi kingdom,” Andy continued. He then noted astutely that Saudi Arabia had signed new protection agreements with Russia. “All of the Eastern European countries that have repatriated their gold. They’re all part of the EU but they all trade their own currency. They’re all going to break away from the Western system,” he added.

And now it looks like Andy was right: it appears Saudi Arabia has just issued a death knell to the exclusivity of the petrodollar as we once knew it – the first of several dominoes that needs to fall before the U.S. is exposed financially as an emperor with no clothes.

I doubt very much that even 100 NUTO tanks will make a difference or last very long. Not to mention getting them to the front with ammo, fuel and spare parts. AND, a trained crew. It took three months when I trained in a much simpler tank with no electronics other than radio.

I was in an armored cavalry tank platoon and know how easy they can be bogged down or lose a track. Especially with slightly trained drivers. I saw one buried to the turret in mud during training and losing a track was as easy as trying to go over a tree stump the wrong way. That has not changed, except that now they are bigger, heavier, and more electronic dependent. Tanks, like aircraft carriers, are obsolete coffins in the 21st century.

Which is precisely the problem. The GFC was triggered by $150 oil, not some hedgefund collapse as was commonly claimed. Once oil gets even near that we’ll be off the races. Personally I see the government’s solutions already in play, the global lockdown really curtailed oil consumption and a total market collapse would be icing on the cake.

Nearly every westerner is in debt up to the eyeballs and beholden to the banks and the government for handouts, they are slaves basically they just haven’t realized it yet. They may never realize it? Add the global warming freak-show to a market and banking collapse and you can see laws passed to severely curtail driving.

We will, as you say, never run out of oil. There will always be some somewhere. But as we pass over the peak of production and it becomes more and more expensive the equation will have to be balanced. That future oil won’t matter for many of us, we won’t be able to afford it or be allowed to.

Duncan, I was here during the Woodstock days, but I never heard of Brown Acid. I have never entered the druggie world or paid much attention to it. I never even used legal drugs beyond aspirin, or even tobacco or alcohol. Perhaps that is why I am still healthy at 78. I still don’t care how stupid people decide to avoid reality. It is their freedom to choose as long as it doesn’t affect me or mine. It’s just another form of suicide.

I have found that a glass of good wine three times a day works better than any blood pressure drug and is much nicer. Add in a good balanced diet and…walla!…good health.

I just went on a 5 star vacation to Egypt, just on my basic retirement money.

All the EU countries are projected to grow a little in 2023. Even Russia, more so than the UK.

The supermarkets are full as ever, only the energy prices are very high, but they are compensated by the government.

A subsidized kWh now costs 40 euro cent, 1 m3 gas costs €1.45. It’s high, but not yet astronomical.

This year will see either another Uro-peon war with Russia, which it will lose just like Napoleon and Hitler lost, or the end of your economies, or both. The US wants a 3rd world Urope and they are succeeding very well. Destruction is their best talent. Building back, not so much. You are being totally disarmed with “promises” of future replacements. No, the high prices are NOT “compensated” by the government. They are “compensated” by the serf’s taxes. It is the government that made the costs high deliberately (see above paragraph). Governments do not produce anything except more corrupt government.

Russia is laughing at the Western “sanctions” as they destroy the West’s economies while the Russians are doing better than they have in years. The West seems to have forgotten that they are a minority today. The “Golden Billion” are outweighed by the other seven billion plus who just happen to have most of the resources left on the planet.

BTW: your 40 euro cents translates to about 23 Philippine pesos today. That is about 100% more than I pay here in the Philippines per kWh. NOT cheap!

Cloggie, you can claim that you went on a 5 star vacation in Egypt, but there is no way to prove it online. I just checked and I can go there for less than $900RT. Just checked Egyptian 5 star hotel costs and they start at less than $100/day. Cheap! If you want to impress someone, be sure they are not smart enough to check stats.
