Oil market braces for ‘a major supply shock’

Oil market braces for ‘a major supply shock’ thumbnail

Oil prices could soon rally above $90 a barrel amid growing concerns over the prospect of steep declines in Iranian crude, according to industry analysts.

Brent crude was on track to post a fourth week of declines in five on Friday, with the global oil benchmark poised to slip more than 1 percent amid continued volatility in the energy market.

Investors are seen weighing bullish factors that include potential supply disruptions to Iranian crude exports against more bearish indicators, such as a ramp-up in production by OPEC and its allied partners.

“Venezuela’s ticking time bomb together with the return of Iran’s oil industry to the sanctions era has all the makings for a major supply shock,” Stephen Brennock, oil analyst at PVM Oil Associates, said in a research note published Friday.

“The rising tide of global supply outages will offer a lifeline to those of a bullish disposition. (And) the potential for another price spike cannot therefore be discounted,” he added.

Iran sanctions

Alongside Russia, OPEC kingpin Saudi Arabia and other members of the Middle-East dominated oil cartel agreed in late June to begin increasing production by up to 1 million barrels per day starting in August.

The decision has helped to put a lid on a price rally, with crude futures falling more than 7 percent since climbing above $80 a barrel in May.

The price jump earlier this summer had come about in large part because of President Donald Trump‘s decision to pull the U.S. out of an international agreement to curb Iran’s nuclear program.

The Trump administration’s move is widely expected to severely hinder the world’s fifth-largest oil producer, with the re-imposition of economic sanctions set to take place over the coming weeks.

“The ongoing escalation of trade wars presents a major downside risk to oil demand. Yet, we remain much more concerned about the ongoing U.S. sanctions on Iran,” analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch said in a research note published last week.

“Under different scenarios, Iranian supplies could drop as much as 0.8 million barrels per day. In turn, for every 1 million barrels per day imbalance, we see a price impact on Brent of around $17,” they added.

On Friday, Brent crude traded around 0.1 percent lower at $73.44.

If Iranian oil vanishes from the market, all oil from the Gulf will vanish.

Russia is going to love $150+ oil.

I said that Russia will love $150+ oil and would add to that, that the announced standoff US-Iran will drive Europe, Russia and China together, with Russia holding all the decisive energy cards. That is what Russia will love most: America completely cornered and isolated.

    MM,

“Russia won’t love when the global economy collapses..You are so dense and so obsessed with Putin and politics..”

The global economy, as you call it, didn’t exist anywhere near to the same extent when I was your age, as it exists today. Most of what we had available to us was grown, or manufactured, here in North America.

The big issue, as you continue to point out, will be that of energy. Those countries who are still net exporters of oil, will be laughing all the way to the bank as oil prices continue to rise, especially those countries who don’t rely on as much oil as we do here in NA for our domestic economies.

Sorry dude, but Cloggie is correct. $150/bbl oil will be great for Russia. Not so great for us here in NA. Expect much lower standards of living. Move sooner rather than later, and plant yourself a vegetable garden.

oil is energy is value. in a world filled with funny-money – a massive conflagration would absolutely help russia. they are poised to succeed in this new world of brutality and straight power politics. americans are still living in post-WWII values of dialogue and cooperation, globalism, american exceptionalism, etc

(It won’t be until the early 2020’s that will will see major reductions, and they can probably keep the game together for a while.
    But maybe not.

Wow, Greygoar, I have something to document for future reference, good boy, you are finally catching on to better behavior. Too bad your comment is not perfect.

“Sorry dude, but Cloggie is correct. $150/bbl oil will be great for Russia.”

Sorry dude, oil at that price will likely derail the fragile global economy sending oil prices back down maybe lower than what Russia can stand. There very well could be a short party period for these countries then back to skid row. Greygoar the problem with you is your anti-American agenda and pro-Russian leanings. These always get in your way of objectivity and balance.

The sooner the global economy collapses, the better Davy, and regardless of price, Russia is still a net exporter of oil.

And Davy, skid row is subjective. What you consider to be skid row, and what most Eastern Europeans consider to be skid row, are two very different things. Let’s just say that it isn’t going to go over very well with the gangs of St. Louise, within a few days walking distance from grandpa’s estate farm.

If you haven’t done so already, you should get your Italian papers in order soon buds, before your owners will no longer let you escape.

You might also consider becoming good buddies with the family’s private jet pilot, at least that’s what I would do if I was a .0001%er spoiled filthy rich boy like you.

Oh and Davy, try not to forget about the lynch mobs.

I am sure why I am commenting of this blog. This blog is full of kids with no life experience.

You have to be blind to not see the collapsing that is going now because of overpopulation and peak oil.

Desperate immigrants are now pouring in into white countries like Canada, France because their home countries are now collapsing and cannot support life anymore.

Was having a coffee in a Montreal shopping center. I was sit in a public area that had 10 seats. I was the only white people in this area and I was surrounded by 9 people of arab origin.

There could be 2 explanation to that. Either the government is lying about immigration figures and more immigrant are moving into white countries that official reported.

Could also be that white people of Nordic origin (blue and green eye type) like German, Swedish, Austria people are going extinct much faster then reported by official agencies.

I even a Muslin women praying on the floor of the shopping center in the middle of the public area. Canada is now a shit hole. The main cities are mainly Arab, Chinese, Indian. White have moved in the country site.

I am 50 yo and I rember a time with plenty of good paying jobs and opputine and only white people.

This is all gone now. I am now waiting for a chock that will kill western countries and the technological development and modernity created by white people will die with them.

The only white countries that might survive will be Poland and Russia.

What?? Who says the sooner the global economy collapses the better? You, Mr. snug up in those BC hills who could give a shit about billions who will die. A rich bastard like you doesn’t care.

So what Russia is a net exporter of oil. It cost money to produce and export oil. Do you think they are going to give it away?

“So what Russia is a net exporter of oil. It cost money to produce and export oil. Do you think they are going to give it away?”

Now why would Russia give away the main source of energy required to keep their own society functioning? That would be really stupid, would you not agree?

Venezuela Says Drone Attack Targeted President Maduro

President, who was speaking before a military parade, is unharmed; seven soldiers injured

Drones carrying explosives targeting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro were detonated near a stage where he was giving a speech Saturday, the government said.

Mr. Maduro was unharmed, but the explosions triggered by the drones injured seven soldiers participating in a military-style parade honoring the National Guard in the capital of Caracas, said Jorge Rodriguez, the information minister.

“All of the work we have done immediately after has allowed us to establish with evidence that it was an assassination attempt,” Mr. Rodriguez said in a brief televised appearance. He said various drones carried out the attack but didn’t say who might have deployed them or explain if the drones had dropped bombs or been used as missiles against Mr. Maduro and his entourage.

State television showed a few seconds of chaos on Bolivar Avenue, a main thoroughfare in Caracas, before the broadcast was cut off.

Mr. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who was standing at his side, looked up to the sky momentarily as he was promising that “the hour of the economic recuperation” had arrived. His speech ended abruptly, and the broadcast then panned to the face of a young soldier before focusing on the street in front of makeshift stand where Mr. Maduro had been standing.

Soldiers, who had been standing at attention could be seen scrambling. In the midst of the confusion a voice could be heard saying, “Let’s go to the right.”

As rumors of an assassination attempt circulated before the government’s announcement, the first comment from an official came from Miguel Perez, the president of a government bank. On his official Twitter account, Mr. Perez said that Mr. Maduro and those standing around him, including Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez, were fine.

“Calm and tranquility, our president, @NicolasMaduro is fine as is all the high political-military leadership of the revolution,” Mr. Perez wrote.

Mr. Maduro, who has governed a country suffering from hyperinflation, hunger and rampant violence, is deeply unpopular, polls show. The discontent is evident in the armed forces, say current and former military officers.

Members of the armed forces were planning a coup against Mr. Maduro when they were arrested in March, The Wall Street Journal reported in May. Several other coup attempts have also been thwarted by the president’s intelligence services over the last year, leading to dozens of arrests and a military purge, according to several former and current Venezuelan officers.

“The Venezuelan military is a time bomb, a pressure-cooker,” one Army captain, who had fled from Venezuela, recently told The Journal. “It could explode at any time because everyone is unhappy.”

    MM,

“All that traveling but you couldn’t make it to college..LOL”

Unless you consider being up to your eyeballs in debt to be important to you, college these days is a complete waste of time and money. The education system is now big business, and the curriculum caters to the lowest common demoninator. Any moron can now get a college degree, if he/she is willing to go far enough into debt, and critical thinking has absolutely nothing at all to do with regurgitating what other people tell you to regurgitate.

And more more thing. Those who can’t do, teach.

  37. makati1 on Sun, 5th Aug 2018 3:00 am

Those who cannot do, teach. How often in my life I have seen that as fact.

I knew several college professors. None impressed me with their knowledge. One turned out to be a pederast and was arrested in a Central American country by the Us FBI. Last I heard he was in federal prison. I do not know what happened to his family.

As for college, I know two multi-millionaires. One inherited money and was an asshole. One never went to college but was very successful and a nice guy.

I often had to teach college engineering grads how to do their jobs. Book learning is not real learning. Not real life. Hands on. That is how you learn.

If the Us is ALMOST energy independent, why do they buy electric from Canada? Why do they buy nuclear fuel from Russia?

“USEC in March 2011 signed a further contract with Tenex for supply of low-enriched uranium from 2013 to 2022, ramping up to about half of earlier levels from Russia, with an option to match those levels. The 2011 contract covers the supply of 21 million SWU to USEC/Centrus, worth $2.8 billion. The new supplies will come from mined uranium enriched in Russia,”

    http://www.world-nuclear.org/information-library/country-profiles/countries-t-z/usa-nuclear-fuel-cycle.aspx

Not to mention ALL of the embedded energy imported in the junk Americans buy and waste at Walmart. Billions of barrels worth. Us energy independent! LMAO

MM you wrote “Russia won’t love when the global economy collapses..You are so dense and so obsessed with Putin and politics..”
