Candlelight dinners won’t be romantic. They’ll be commonplace. That’s a world some say is coming unless we switch to clean energy — fast. Although the exact date keeps getting pushed back, those people argue that, at some point, oil production will decline, not due to a lack of demand, but because it just won’t be there to get out. It’s a theory called peak oil and it’s a legitimate concern. Fossil fuels are a finite resource. One day the earth will be dry. No more oil. No more natural gas. No more coal

Yes. And just watch the environmental distruction after peak oil. We will ramp up tar sands extraction to as high as possible, destroying the environment with strip mining, tayling ponds, and out of control emmissions as we go. Coal to oil technology, same thing. Even ramping up solar installations will require heaps of energy inputs from fossil fuels….how do you make silicon, aluminium, glass, copper wire……all these things are mined using oil driven equipment…..using tyres made from oil….steal smelted using coal….etc etc. In the end maybe we will see that all alternative sources of energy are in fact just derivatives of fossel fuels…….because they all take huge amount of fossil fuels to produce the infrastructure……and maintain it……in order to have your nuclear power plant……your solar panel factory….everything from obtaining the raw materials……to processing them into various products that produce alternative energy…..to trasporting….repairing…….replacing…….without fossil fuels……none of them are possible…….so they will all die when fossil fuel dies. We could not have possibly discovered nuclear energy first……prior to oil or coal…..because we would not have been able to make the machines…..mine the ore…etc etc to discover…….mine…..process…..refine…..or even to build the conventional components of a nuclear power plant……without fossile fuels. We stand as a civilisation……on the brink of collapse……the only thing that will prevent that……or should I say put it off for a while….is if people stop consuming….stop buying shit you don’t need…..stop living a life of just consume consume consume…..turn that tv off…..turn those lights out…..eat less……keep your clothes till they are worn out……keep everythinug till it is broken beyond repair…..then recycle…….but we wont…..everybody is leaving it up to everybody else…..and they will continue to do so until your ability to turn that tv on, or buy endless useless crap everyday……is taken away from you by the collapsing system. Sorry but thats the way it is.

Wow!Stuart – Need a hug – you sure like to paint a grim picture don’t you – while some of your comments make sense, you should know that every fuels ever used by Mankind has been transitional fuels – first wood then Whale fat – coal – now we are in the oil era – next step–Natural gas because it’s cleaner and abundant – your car will run on NG before Electricity, I can tell you that – after NG, in 100 years there will be something else – better cleaner and even more abundant, like hydrogen or solar – basically we will have used the previous obsolute fuel to exploit the next better fuel – history just repeat itself – the wheel will keep turning until we get slammed by a rock in a million year or so – Now please relax and enjoy all the benefits the current form of energy is offering, like the ability to post your opinion on a computer for example – cioa!
