Oil Could Hit $100 If Supply Crunch Worsens

Production

Oil prices are likely to be “biased to the upside” for the rest of the year as demand from refineries rises in November and December, according to Citigroup Inc.

An average price of $80 a barrel for this quarter is “realistic,” with spikes to $90 or even $100 possible if further disruptions worsen a supply crunch amid rising consumption, Citi’s Global Head of Commodities Research Ed Morse said Tuesday. Benchmark Brent crude topped $85 early last month on concern U.S. sanctions on Iran would create a shortage. Prices have since dropped back.

The outlook comes as the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies send mixed supply signals to the market, with Russia suggesting it could push output to a record and an OPEC committee signaling the group could cap supply again in 2019. Central to the uncertainty is Iran, where the U.S. imposed sanctions this week while granting waivers to eight buyers of its crude.

Iran is likely to continue sales of about 1 million barrels a day, Morse said in a Bloomberg Television interview, adding that the waivers don’t allow unlimited purchases. “How much oil is being granted from Iran to each of those eight countries? We can only surmise until we get a tweet from somebody in the government.”

Supply disruptions can also be expected elsewhere, including in OPEC nations Nigeria, Libya and Venezuela, according to Morse. In Nigeria, where elections are coming up, “there are always disruptions and they average about half a million barrels a day,” he said.

Next year, Citigroup sees the demand picture changing as potentially slower economic growth weighs on energy use.

“Longer term, there are lots of road blocks to demand,” Morse said. “I think demand at stake is maybe 500,000 barrels a day lower next year than this year.”

The elites keep tightening the screws building the police state. A few nutjobs will go postal and the 1% will use these events to tighten the noose some more.

The ruling class will use recessions to call for more bailouts and welfare to make Americans weak and dependent. The elites will then use their control of the media to spread propaganda that the economy is booming. The 1% will keep using this plan until the Ponzi economy implodes.

After the economy collapses, cash will be worthless, ATM cards won’t work, bank accounts will be zeroed out, there will be inflation, deflation, banks will shut, bankruptcies and foreclosures will rise, businesses will close, unemployment will soar, there will be bail-ins, capital controls, negative interest rates, bank runs, bank holidays, gold may be outlawed, riots will break out, martial law will be declared, concentration camps will be opened, a civil war will start, and the ruling powers will try to start WWIII with China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran to distract the population.

The future is certain. The only question is when.

“Why Oil Prices Will Fall In 2019 And Beyond”
    https://tinyurl.com/y9sdxouj

“The decision by the U.S. to grant waivers to eight countries, allowing them to continue to import oil from Iran, has helped ease the tension in the oil market. No longer are oil traders talking about $100 oil. Iran’s oil exports stood at 1.7 million barrels per day in October and won’t fall to zero anytime soon. But that may not be the end of the story. “While consistent with our expectations, the granting of waivers does not imply that Iran exports will stabilize near current levels,” Goldman Sachs said in a research note on November 1. As more Iranian supply goes offline, the market will continue to tighten. Iran could lose nearly 600,000 bpd of exports by the end of the year, relative to October levels, the bank”

“In fact, while everyone focuses on the short-term movements in oil prices, Goldman says it’s important to look at the futures curve. “In our view, the most interesting takeaway from today’s oil price sell-off is the parallel shift in the crude forward curve. This is consistent with a move down on the oil cost curve as recent supply news (less Iran losses, more US and Saudi production) point to fewer high-cost marginal barrels needed in 2019,” the bank said.”

“But it also suggests that U.S. shale can grow more at a given price level than many analysts had thought. It shows that “US shale is able to deliver more production at the lower 1H18 incentive price than previously expected and that Permian constraints are not as binding as initially feared.” WTI averaged just $65 per barrel in the first half of the year, with some producers in the Permian likely fetching less than that because of discounts related to pipeline bottlenecks. Goldman’s logic is that if U.S. shale can grow as quickly as it did this year, with WTI in the $60s per barrel, then that means it can continue to grow briskly, which means that oil prices in the years ahead will be lower than previously thought.”

“The result is a steeper backwardation in the futures curve, Goldman argues. A long bet on oil is more profitable, which could induce investors to jump in. That, in turn, could help edge up spot prices and near-term futures. Goldman sees Brent rebounding to $80 per barrel by the end of the year. However, the longer-dated price is still lower. The investment bank sees Brent falling back to about $65 per barrel by the end of 2019 as midstream bottlenecks in the Permian clear up. That may allow OPEC to dial back on production and rebuild spare capacity. Goldman calls this a “re-anchoring of long-term oil prices.”

Sounds like Millimind impersonating Davy again. He is always obsessed with black dicks and raping Taylor Swift. The second would be more than a little ironic, given where she stands.

After last night, I would say Cloggie’s prediction of a US civil war took a step closer to reality. US politics has degenerated to the point where substance doesn’t matter. It is all about identity politics now. About how people ‘feel’ about how a candidate relates to them, rather than anything real that any of them have actually achieved or could achieve. Something that ensures that political polarisation will continue and the two sides will fail to work proactively in mitigating the coming crisis.

Ironically, Democrat success in taking the house may set them up as fall guys for the coming recession. Had Trump kept control of both houses, it would have been difficult for him to blame the approaching recession on the Dems. Now, he will be able to point to 2 years of solid economic growth that all fell to pieces after the shitheads took the house.

Antius, the midterms were a nothingburger. The Blue wave did not happen. What happened is a split congress. This was forecasted by almost all rational sources left and right. It means grid lock which is a good thing IMO. It stops the extremism on both sides and forces compromise on a narrow set of policies. Women in suburbs swayed the house vote. The solid red state interior ensured Republicans held the senate. As far as a civil war you guys that don’t live here don’t get it. We are in a civil war in DC. Go around the country and it is not. People that are Democrats or Republicans have so many more personal positions that matter than left or right. The divisions within both parties are great. The country is regionalized. There are no solid opposing forces to battle a civil war. The identity politics is with the extremist fringe of the Democratic Party.

The markets approve of the results:

“The Morning After: S&P Futures Surge On Gridlock, Dollar Slides”
    https://tinyurl.com/ycebvclm

“US politicians will now be looking to the 2020 elections, so “Republicans should now push the Trump Administration to pursue more cautious economic policies, particularly with respect to trade,” said Jan Dehn, the head of research at Ashmore Group. With Democrats keen on constraining Trump, there may be a moderation in policies, he added. And finally, “the likelihood of very large stimulus measures has now declined,” Dehn said. “All in all, these factors will weigh on the dollar and support EM currencies.” Recapping last night’s results, Democrats regained a majority in the House of Representatives while Republicans not only clinched control of the Senate but also gained 3 extra seats. And while the results will hamper Trump’s business-friendly agenda and could lead to uncertainty about his administration at a time when investors are already worried that a decade-old bull market may be ending, dimming chances for any major fiscal initiative from the administration that might have pushed yields higher and strengthened the greenback, so far stocks are enjoying a relief rally that the outcome wasn’t worse. Indeed, the results for the GOP were no worse than investors had feared and point to a protracted political gridlock that had largely been expected by investors. That left investors free to buy back into a market that had its worst month in seven years in October.”

  17. DerHundistLos on Wed, 7th Nov 2018 7:23 am

“The solid red state interior ensured Republicans held the senate.”

The Republicans lost a staggering 42 house seats, including the interior. Take Iowa as an example- as interior as the states are- the Democrats flipped two districts and now control three of Iowa’s four congressional districts. The Democrats even won in Oklahoma and Utah.

The only reason the Republicans held the senate is due to the makeup of the states in play, almost all of which were Red states.

These are the indisputable facts. There is no such thing as a “solid Red state interior”. Or define what you believe constitutes a “solid Red state interior”.

OK der hund, not solid but overwhelming. Put your glasses on and look at a map. They are all over MSM. A sea of red with blue little islands on the coast and urban areas in the interior.
I am happy with the results. We have grid lock and this will force compromise. Extremist on both sides will be stymied. Trump will be moderated. Now we turn to the 2020 election. Maybe this midterm will loosen the grip of the rabid liberal extremist faction of the Democratic party and someone with a rational foundation will step up so we have a valid option to Trump.

“Blue Islands in the urban areas should not control the country.”

A small minority should not control the majority. That’s called tyranny and can only last so long before the majority rises up to through off the yoke of their oppressors.

3 of Iowa’s four congressional districts are urban blue islands? Or Illinois? Or Minnesota ? Or Wisconsin? Or Michigan?

Democrats in the aggregate received 10 million more votes than Republicans, yet Republican win due to gerrymandering. As the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican party admitted to Chris Mathews on camera, the only way for Republicans to win is by suppressing Democratic turnout. Tyranny.

Geography does not vote. We live in an increasingly urban/suburban environment as Red state rural America hemorrhages population to metropolitan areas.

Your argument that the minority should dictate policy to the majority is plainly illogical and dead wrong.

There will be consequences if this continues.

There are two bright spots this morning in Florida. DeSantis got enough of the Hispanic vote to win over a black Marxist and Bill Nelson got tossed into the dustbin of history.

The cancer that crept in was the electorates’ stupid decision that will allow 1.5 million convicted felons to vote in the next election. This decision will turn the state blue forever.

Looking at the voting patterns in Florida county by county, it becomes readily apparent that the urban rural divide has not abated. The population centers around the mega cities are Democratic Socialists strong holds. Populists Republicans control the surrounding counties.

The exponential growth of bureaucracies in these population centers combined with socialists policies that attract the dependent classes by the millions will continue to destabilize the economies of these socialist utopias. The resulting onerous tax laws and code restrictions will cause the producing class to flee to the red counties.

The rising crime rates will increase the reach and presence of the police state right up and until the point the city government goes bankrupt. At that point these population centers begin to depopulate.

The key question is how long will the supply chains continue function in this environment worsening economic conditions and social unrest?

Interesting article on thermal energy storage for boat propulsion.

    https://www.maritime-executive.com/features/Advances-in-Thermal-Energy-Storage-and-Boat-Propulsion-2014-02-28

A commonly used material in storage heaters is feolite, which is sintered iron oxide. This has density 3900kg per cubic metre; room temperature specific heat of 912J/KgK and can be used at temperatures up to 1000C. At these temperatures, a single cubic metre of feolite will store 3.5GJ, a little under 1MJ/kg. If heat can be converted back into mechanical power at an efficiency of 40%, the effective energy density of feolite would be 0.1kWh/kg. That is only about half of the energy density of Li-ion batteries. However, bulk materials like feolite are quite cheap and we could potentially build a ‘stored heat engine’ using quite simple technologies.

When a person pays their debt to society, the individual should be welcomed and encouraged to become a productive member of society.

Darrell Cloud, the obvious reason for your desire to deny a citizen their constitutional rights after an individual has paid their debt to society is based purely on your belief that this person may vote in opposition to your personal preference. The idea of doing what’s right for an individual matters not in your calculation. The societal benefits of integrating a person into the community to prevent recidivism matters not in your calculation.

To base your opinion purely on the bases of a person’s possible voting preference explains why a divide exists. And you’re surprised that the divide grows ever larger.

“What China needs to offset both its growing oil and gas dependency is more domestic production, but therein lies the problem. China’s oil fields are maturing and it’s unlikely that significant discoveries can be found to replace depletion reserves. Around five or six years ago, Beijing pegged its hope on emulating the US shale oil and gas success story, even cutting deals with American firms to help develop China’s shell formations. However, unlike most US shale formations, China’s are in difficult reach, rugged terrain, indicating that shale oil and gas will not offer the solution that Beijing energy planners needs, at least in the foreseeable future.”

Delusional Davy “Instead he just ruins the board and makes himself look like the selfish moron that he is.”

You are projecting again, Exceptionalist! LOL!

More juanpee trying to be cute and saying nothing. The selfish moron just waits around to stalk like a neurotic mental case with no sense of reality and no sense of of a common understanding here against dirty activity. I imagine this is why he is not gardening now. Nobody want him around with such a self-centered dirty disposition.

Delusional Davy “Do y’all think my ALL CAPS broadcasts are OK? Or do they come across as nutters?”
Well, I like the “NUTTER ALERTS” in all caps. They sound kind of like extra crazy.

If you could realize how your projections betray your true nature you wouldn’t post them. All I have to do to prove my point that you are clinically insane is copy and paste your shit. You are a sad, sad fuck, Davy! LOL!
