Iraq’s oil production from its southern oilfields is at 2.5 million barrels per day as the country edges closer to becoming the world’s biggest source of new supplies over the next few years, a senior Iraqi oil official said.
Iraq’s biggest field Rumaila, operated by BP, is currently producing 1.35 million bpd while Zubair oilfield, run by Italy’s ENI, is producing 270,000 bpd, Dhiya Jaffar, head of the state-run South Oil Co., told Reuters on Tuesday.

Until the civil war breaks out in full and all production shuts down…

Did Iraqs largest oil field used to be run by, Oh, I dont know IRAQ! before the marines landed to ‘liberate’ Iraq from all its troublesome oil? I mean, before the US showed up , Im pretty sure the whole industry was run by Iraq, with w/e small deals they had with the ‘majors’.
I wonder if BP is just itching for the US and Israel to ‘return’ Iran’s oil fields back to its ‘rightful’ owner as well. I know BP is still butt-hurt from 1979, and to a lesser extent the events prior to 1953. I suppose they feel some payback is coming there way. Courtesy of the US\Israeli War-machine of course.

The Mitt seems to be even more willing to carry out the orders of the Lobby than Barry (real name?). If he does, all these Iraqi supplies will stay in the ground for months, if not years.

Bill, Iraq was already largely ethnically cleansed during the US occupation. The south is Shia and it’s oilproduction would likely not be affected if Iraq finally falls apart in three pieces.

Really Arthur? But, how long and what damage will happen before it divides? And are you so sure that it will not be destroyed or at least put back years if the war is long and heavy? After all, any real fighting is going to have Iranian and Saudi backing.

We will burn half of it trying to keep the others from getting it. At the end of the day, we will all be in the same place.
