World oil production has maxed out: Talisman

Talisman chief executive Jim Buckee has never been one to shy away from controversy.

…So when Buckee suggests, as he did at Talisman’s annual meeting Wednesday, that Peak Oil has arrived, we are not completely surprised — even if that observation is likely to again land him in the eye of a storm.


In a nutshell, the Peak Oil theory holds that we have more or less discovered all the (significant) oil there is to find on the planet and that we are on a long, steady, decline with respect to new discoveries that is destined to conflict with soaring global demand, causing us to run out of the precious commodity at some point.

Just when we will reach that point — Buckee’s take on the matter notwithstanding — is still a matter of considerable conjecture.
