Wind power is expected to generate up to 16 per cent of Europe’s electricity by 2020, a key conference on the sector in Milan, Italy, heard on Tuesday.
With the EU having set legally binding targets of generating 20 per cent of renewable energy, ten per cent through biofuels and a 30 per cent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, wind energy would be ‘a main contributor’ to achieving those goals, said Arthouros Zervos, president of the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
