Will US Withdraw From Iraq And What Would Be The Consequences?

The US policy in Iraq is not going to change significantly in the short-term simply because it cannot change. For the US to continue to be a superpower, it must constantly prove itself as a military superpower. Losing Iraq to the Mullahs in Tehran would be a disaster.

The Mullahs would immediately realize that nobody in the West can stop them and will see no reason to negotiate away their nuclear weapons or support for international Islamist terror groups. This would spark a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, as Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other countries jump into the fray by launching their own WMD programs.

The establishment of a ‘crescent’ from Iran to the Shia south to Syria and finally to Lebanon would give the Mullahs too much influence for any American President to sleep well at night. Under this scenario, Iranian weapons, conventional and otherwise, would easily reach the Hizballah and other organizations labeled as “terrorist” by the United States. Protected by Iranian nukes, terrorists would get more assertive and more aggressive, seriously threatening American interests and allies in the region and beyond.
