The rise in acts of terrorism, political instability, uncertainty on the actual amount of proven oil reserves, United States of America’s frosty relations with many Arab nations, and the need for energy security have been identified as major reasons why the once revered Persial Gulf no longer plays its dominant role in global oil demand.
This was disclosed by an international oil expert and President of Global Winter and Energy Strategy Team (GWEST), Dr Paul Michael Whibey, while delivering a lecture titled, “Nigeria’s Rise as a Global Oil Power and Its Geopolitical Implication,” at the first Emmanuel Egbogah Lecture Series on Petroleum Policy and Strategy, which took place at the University of Port Harcourt.
