Why Another Oil War

In my forthcoming book ‘The Next Oil War’ I take a close look at the possibility we could be moving towards another oil war – while of course clearly acknowledging that no political leader or mainstream media editor in the ‘mature democracy’ countries such as the USA, UK, France, Germany or Japan would ever mention the words ‘oil war’. This is one basic problem: oil wars are not admitted by the mainstream. How they have occurred in the recent past, and could or might occur again in the near future, and for what reasons, is not a public debating subject.
To be sure, when or if there is another oil war it would probably happen in the Middle East. Simple oil (and gas) reserve sizes, both real and generously overestimated in official data, and nearly 100 years of foreign and Great Power interest, intrigue, frontier drawing exercises and repeated military intervention makes it likely the Middle East would be the likely venue for another oil war. Many other factors also reinforce this likelihood, rather than reducing it. These include the sunni-shi’a divide and political Islam, as well as large numbers of displaced peoples and ‘fantom nations’, petrodollar financed arms buying, population growth and the real world existence of Israel.
