What Comes Next? thumbnail

Previews of the coming reckoning…

All things have a beginning, a middle and and end.

And now, more than 3,480 days into the current bull market, the longest in history, we can say with high confidence we are very close to its end.

Why?

For manifold reasons that are multiplying fast. So many, in fact, that each of the key speakers at the recent Peak Prosperity/Contra Corner Summit in New York City had difficulty finding enough time to enumerate them all during the six-hour event.

David Stockman, President Reagan’s budget head and former US Congressman, focused his warnings on the overconcentration of financialized (i.e., phony) profits in the world economy, which mask the steep decline in the production of tangible (i.e., real) value.

Among his long litany of examples of the sclerosis and fraud within today’s economy, he explained how so much of today’s euphoric stock prices are an artifact of the cheap credit made possible by the world’s central banking cartel — enabling a massive LBO of our corporate industry.

Long story short: artificially low rates have been allowing corporate executives, for years, to buy back a huge percentage of their company’s shares, enriching shareholders (most notably the execs themselves) in the immediate term, while saddling the underlying companies under tremendous leverage (1m:13s):

(Purchase the full replay video)

As long as stock prices stay high and rates stay low, no one cares; they’re making too much money. But as rates rise and prices fall, these corporations will become crippled by their debt service requirements, be forced to lay off large swaths of their workforces, and quite possibly go out of business. Failures will ripple across the corporate landscape, sinking the US into prolonged recession.

As a society we’ll be the poorer for it. And suffer the full brunt of the pain this collapse of malinvestment will bring.

But the fat cat execs? They’ll simply retire to their mansions and enjoy their spoils.

Chris Martenson built on Stockman’s evidence of the economy’s vulnerability by showing how there simply won’t be enough (net) energy in the coming decades to power the growth the world is counting on. To drive this point home, he explains how demand from China alone is on track to consume 100% of world oil exports by 2040 (1m:43s):

(Purchase the full replay video)

Following that, James Howard Kunstler tied it all together by warning that we — as a society that is sacrificing our long-term potential and resilience for convenience and the quick buck — are in great peril of inheriting the bankrupt future we deserve (2m:12s):

(Purchase the full replay video)

The trio took over an hour of “ask anything” Q&A from the audience, who primarily wanted to hear these experts’ responses to How do you see all this playing out? and What steps should we be taking now?

Here’s (part of) Stockman’s explanation of why he predicts the Federal Reserve and other central banks will be unable to prevent the next market crash, which he sees coming soon (4m:35s):

(Purchase the full replay video)

The common theme amongst Stockman, Martenson and Kunstler? Use the precious time we have today to fully understand the trends in play, take prudent preparation in advance of the coming crisis, and develop trusted bonds within a like-minded community well-positioned to help its members through future adversity.

The above clips represent less than 10 minutes of the material covered in the 5+ hours of active presentation and discussion from last weekend’s Peak Prosperity/Contra Corner NYC Summit. If you were unable to attend the Summit live, but would like to purchase the replay video of the full event, you can do so at the ‘early bird’ discount price of $275 by clicking here. (Note: after Sep 30th, the cost of the replay video will rise to the full retail price of $350)

    Three steps? LMAO

    1. Watch the ‘market’. No, get out today and invest in real things of use. Preferably good farm land and necessities.

    2. Take the steps described in #1 above.

    3. Too late to form ‘bonds’ in a ‘like minded’ community. If that ‘community; does not already exist, it will never happen. You do not ‘form a community’ overnight. Maybe over years or generations, but not just because the shit may hit the fan tomorrow.

Good luck! Glad I am not playing the market casino, hoping to get rich without working. Only fools stay in a building full of dynamite and a match factory.

    In other real news…

“My Generation is the last one to have known privacy and to have lived out most of our lives in freedom.

I remember when driving licenses did not have photos and most certainly not fingerprints. A driving license was issued on proof of birth date alone.

Prior to the appearance of automobiles IDs did not exist in democratic nations. You were who you said you were.”

Yes, MY generation was the last to know real freedom. What Americans call
freedom’ today is just a jail with almost invisible bars. Try to leave that jail cell if you owe Uncle Sam back taxes. Or, if you dare to speak out about the gulag like Julian Assange or any of the others who exposed the lies.

Americans deny that they live in a police state, but it is the denial of the frog in the heating pot, not reality. We older generations know better, We see the gradual dictatorship forming. The end of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The end of America as a free country.

“As I said before and will say again, the digital world and artificial intelligence are a far worse disaster for mankind than ever was the Black Plague. All the smart people busy at work creating the new world are destroying the human race.”

    https://www.theburningplatform.com/2018/09/22/freedom-where-did-you-go/#more-183821

And people wonder why I live in a 3rd world country too poor to spy on their citizens and who still have a cash economy. LOL

Whar comes next… after the Salzburg humiliation?

    Probably “Canada”.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6197169/Theresa-call-snap-election.html

London running out of options, contemplating new snap elections and begins to understand that the EU is serious about maintaining its standards.

Tusk: “sorry PM May, no cherries!”

London begins to understand that it needs to accept one of the EU’s prefab packages:

    Canada
    Norway
    Ukraine
    Switzerland

As things look now, Canada it is probably going to be.

Another crucial element in the breakup of the West.

    Intra-societal Risks of Peak Oil

Since modern national economies strongly rely on inexpensive fossil raw materials, in particular oil, peak oil would pose considerable challenges to most countries and societies in the event of an incomplete or insufficient post-fossil transformation process. These challenges could entail restrictions in the mobility systems, interruptions in economic structures as well as an erosion of confidence in state institutions.

    https://www.scribd.com/document/387459134/german

    Erosion in state institutions..LOL

It appears that those of us who recognize climate change and the coming collapse have all decided the best place to hunker down and prep. Some have little choice. Some have relocated. All have their minds fixed on that location as best for themselves. Changing that mindset is most likely impossible. We will just have to live or die with that decision. So be it.

Those who deny, or have not yet realized that both events are going to have huge impacts on their lives, are the ones who will suffer the most. The MSM will not sound the alarm. Too much money to be made before that happens. Too much to be lost by telling the truth. To much to explain why they didn’t sound the alarm sooner. to late. To late.

Stockman, Martenson, and Kunstler are not going to come over to your house to solve your plumbing problems, they’re useless eaters, useful idiots, They’re no help whatsoever.

Don’t count on them for anything.

“An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity, and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity, will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.”

Government laws lead to more crime. If only murder and theft were illegal, obeying the law would be easy, but no one respects the law when everything is illegal.

Most of the problems of today would be solved by embracing what worked in the past.

People were born in the past without birth certificates.

    People could travel without passports.

People can learn how to drive without driver licenses.

Business that don’t have business licenses will go bankrupt if they provide bad service.

People won’t starve if they don’t have food stamps.

People can find cheap doctors in the world without Obamacare.

People won’t have a vested interest in driving dangerously if there are no liability insurance laws.

Would crime rise if everything was legal?

Why do you need the government? Can’t you talk to people who bother you? Could you sue someone? Could you just move away?

    Think.

A free country that went to war with a evil dictatorship should not become a police state. Thieves cannot take the moral high ground and criticize robbers.

The USA is an immoral bankrupt warmongering police state now.

Americans have learned nothing from history.

Americans have no rights anymore and the US is no longer a democracy.

Americans think every problem should be solved by decree and force now, but every solution causes another problem.

Americans think the government is made up of holy men. Americans think anyone becomes a saint when they wear a costume, badge, and a gun.

The solution for problems should be what worked in the past.

Americans say that rent control should be used to reduce high rents instead of reducing regulations.

When regulations lead to a bad economy, Americans think that the homeless should be put in jail and businesses should be given bailouts.

Instead of allowing people to feed the homeless, Americans think feeding the homeless should be outlawed.

Instead of getting rid of welfare that encourages girls to marry the state instead of a man and leads to broken families, Americans think food stamps should be expanded.

Instead of getting rid of minimum wages that cripple the ability of the USA to compete on the world market, Americans think the US should increase the minimum wage and start a trade war by enacting tariffs.

When food stamps lead to increased debt, Americans think that taxes should be raised.

Americans think the only way to attend college is to have student loans, but student loans raise the cost of tuition.

Instead of ending wars that lead to terrorism, tyranny, debt, and refugees, Americans think that the wars should be increased.

China used to encourage people to have kids, but after China became overpopulated, China had an one-child policy.

The USA is supposed to be a free country. The reason the Americans fought the British was because Americans wanted to be free.

When our overlords make a decree, they always sell it as a minor temporary law that only affects Muslims, junkies, sex offenders, homosexuals, illegal immigrants, or blacks. The 1% doesn’t mention that the law will become permanent and more draconian.

No one cares if owning cows are illegal, yoga pants are illegal, teen driving is illegal, or smoking is illegal. The problem is what happens when your job is banned, the government steals your house, tortures your family, or sends you to the concentration camps.

Are you just going to take it?

The elites are trying today to make Americans dependent children by outlawing everything and giving them food stamps. Once Americans are weakened and the US Ponzi economy implodes, the ruling class will then send the 99% off to the gulags to be starved and killed.

Governments are not kind. Governments have killed millions of people in Nazi concentration camps, Soviet gulags, the Chinese Great Leap Forward, and the Cambodian killing fields.

Liberty is not something that only benefits other people, but not you. Freedom benefits everyone.

Tyranny is not something that only punishes other people, but not you. Tyranny punishes everyone.

    Freedom is good.

    Tyranny is bad.

    This is no joke.

History repeats and the signs are everywhere.

Anyone who supports the government is just a tool of the elites.

    Wake up.

Why is peakoil.com-commentary so loaded with nutjobs? I mean the articles are relevant and ok on the whole, so why not the comments on the articles?

  16. makati1 on Sun, 23rd Sep 2018 7:13 am

Ben, new here? How many times can you comment on oily subjects that just repeat over and over. Price tomorrow? How many barrels are left? Alternate energy? Etc. All are no more than guesses anyway.

    The important events are discussed:
    Government/financial collapse.
    Prepping for that collapse.
The prospect of wars, civil and world.
Best places to ride out the coming chaos.
What the world may be like after the SHTF.
    Etc.

If you haven’t noticed, many of the articles posted on PO have little to do with oil directly. We debate anything that is important in our lives, not just the ups and downs of the oily industry. Governments, weather, climate change, pollution, etc. The really important things in our lives.

Few of us have any investments in the oily industry except the things we consume that come from oil so we don’t care what the price will be next year or tomorrow. We have no power to change it so why talk about it?

  17. makati1 on Sun, 23rd Sep 2018 7:18 am

BTW Ben: “nutjobs” can apply to anyone who disagrees with your point of view. Yes, we had some who seemed delusional, but my world view and theirs is just as valid as yours. We all see the world from our current position, education and experience so they will all be different in some ways. That’s life.

Mak, I agree that whatever freedoms we may have enjoyed in the past are fast disappearing. I am 50 and grew up in the Third World in something that resembled what upper middle class looked like in the USA in the 50s. Also, I lived 10 years in a military dictatorship where people enjoyed more rights and freedoms than in today’s USA. Most Americans talk a lot about rights and freedoms, but they have no idea what they are talking about because they have never experienced the real things. I use cash as much as possible and don’t use social media or Western MSM. Most people are not even aware of how repressed and controlled they are because they have been conformists their whole lives. I am so glad that I am not younger. The world we’ve built for the younger generations is terrifying.

Yes, Mr. Clog seems to be living in a romanticized past and his nostalgia for it, is making him think it will come back. Not a snowball chance in hell. JuanP, I agree. Most Americans have no idea how unfree they really are because they never get out of the police state long enough to experience real freedom. I have more real freedom here in the Philippines than they will ever have.

I lived in a much more free America.

I lived where you could leave the keys in your car and your house doors unlocked and never worry about theft.

When police were polite and actually helped you if you were in need and didn’t wear military gear. A pistol at the most.

When you could take your friends to the steps into the airplane at the airport to say goodbye and the only thing inspected was your luggage.

When you could be a kid and do things like rids a bike without a crash helmet, knee pads, etc. and not worry about your parents being arrested for child abuse.

When you could be a kid or a teen, not a “protected” prisoner of the state.

And on and on. I too am glad I am 74 and not 14. I would not want to live another 60 years in the US police state, if it exists that long. I doubt it. Trump is destroying it with great efficiency.

    Freedom? They have no clue.

  38. Cloggie on Sun, 23rd Sep 2018 6:37 pm

“I have challenged you a million times to get your history verified by an third party expert”

That is not challenging, that is million times demonstrating your own ignorance. As a consequence you were forced to give up on your xxl nick “mastermind”.lol

“Do you get it now, cloggraham?”

Your only “contribution” here is sneering. You are the best reptesentation of the decline of North-America.. Your kind is completely unable to sustain high civilization and your only role in life is to function as anti-white revolutionairy material in the hands of the milliminds of this world.

Yesterday, finally, hardcore Dems-supporter DerHund reveiled what he thinks is going to happen to North-America: one giant bloodbath. That’s why he left the place to set up shop in Colombia. Mak same story. Both these gentlemen have little or no racialist motivations (precisely the reason why the bloodbath is going to happen in the first place: if you do not defend your territory, and instead prefer to parrotthe phrases like “racist” and “nazi”, words your (((enemies))) put in your mouth, you are going to lose it, that is the law of the jungle).

It is remarkable how many here have fled to safer places, c.q. have something in reserve. Americans basically lost their homeland, by not defending it.

“And it is besides the huge masses of Asia and Africa who are ready to run roughshod over it.”

All these darkies would indeed like to come here, but the political defense against that is underway. I’m currently in Bucarest, Rumania and even in this huge town there is not a single darkie to see and this applies to all Eastern Europe. as well as Italy and Spain. And since they were kept prison in the Soviet empire, they are not political correct, like the NW-Europeans are. That’s why I would love to swap Anglos for Russians and now all of a sudden it is happening, with Trump and Brexit! They volunteer to pack their bags!!!! ROFL

Now all we in Europe need to do is wait until the North-American killing fields of DerHund materialize, team up with Russia and China, separate the North-American hotheads and park one or more white ethno-states in a European-led Commonwealth, and already the North-American problem the white race has, is solved. End good, all good, even for Davy, who will soon enough discover that he has no talent to become an Italian anyway and that the Ozarks are just his cup of tea.

“Perhaps genocide will. Europe knows a thing or two about that.”

Which one would that be? The ones you inflicted on native Americans? Or the one you invented during that Nuremberg show trial of yours?

It does imply that the number of non-white invaders will greatly increase, in line with the wishes of the real owners of Anglosphere, but at least the influx of white Eastern Europeans finally stops and that is what matters.lol

We continental Europeans in contrast have no talent for multicult, the incurable fascists that we are and we are going to team up with the mono-racial Russians and Chinese, everybody happy.

Volkswagen gets VERY serious with e-vehicles:

    https://cleantechnica.com/2018/09/23/volkswagen-plans-16-new-electric-car-assembly-plants-1-in-north-america/

SIXTEEN new e-vehicle plants, most in Europe, 2 in China and 1 in North-America, a distribution in line with differing local public receptivity and the strength of environmental policies.

Got it, anonydummy1? Sneering that it won’t work is for losers like you.

    “Davy

Who are you kidding? You are one of the biggest extremist on this site. That is why you are always peddling zerohedge far right propaganda. You need a safe space that is why you only post from one site..You are a narrow minded nut job.”

I AM THE MOB, hypocrisy is one of DavyDonaldTurd’s (DDT) most consistent and reliable character attributes.

    Therefore:

DDT’s thoughts reflect AND project perfectly like a mirror; the subconscious perceptions that are held about the Self. His frequent bullying, outbursts, and incessant assaults are a perfect reflection of his present state of mind and how he feels about himself on the inside. DDT’s resentment and anger toward others reveal anger and contempt of himself rooted in jealously, fear, and a sense of failure with who he has become, questioning his ability to aptly compete with others.

DDT, must learn to apply this knowledge to become more self-aware and introspective. By doing so, he will diffuse inner conflict and confusion and become a pacifist of the mind rather than a bellicose, xenophobic, and hateful Trumptard of the mind.

DDT is a charter member of the lunatic fringe.

When I was a boy of 12, my next door neighbor of 16 asked my folks for permission for us to go camping. My parents agreed without a moments hesitation since Johnny was an Eagle Scout and, as Mom would say, he looked as beautiful as an angel. While camping, Johnny dropped his drawers and asked me to perform fellatio. Thinking this was a new game, I did as requested. It never happened again. The point being, homosexual acts are far more common then people imagine, and, no, it did not “scar” me for life nor affect me in the slightest.
