A SCOTTISH business leader is demanding the creation of an energy commission to cut through the political dogma that he says is frustrating debate on developing a national fuel strategy.
David Watt, director of the Institute of Directors Scotland, said energy production, supply and consumption was at the top of Scotland’s agenda but ideological arguments at Holyrood were preventing proper debate.
He wants an independent panel drawn from the scientific community, utilities and renewable energy groups which would provide MSPs with facts rather than conjecture on which to make decisions on energy policy.
His comments mark a significant escalation in the energy debate, which is dominating the national agenda amid concerns over global warming, the future of nuclear energy and high wholesale costs.
