100 hurt, 100 vehicles damaged
BANGLADESH – Leaders and activists of youth front of Awami League-led 14-party alliance yesterday staged a violent protest in the city over inadequate power supply to the residents of the metropolis.
The areas covering from Paltan crossing to Dainik Bangla intersection turned into a battle field from 11-15 to 12 noon as the unruly opposition activists clashed with the Police that left at least 100 people injured.
The violent youths went on rampage and damaged at least 100 motor vehicles including private cars, mini buses and BRTC double- decker buses in the troubled areas.
Police lobbed teargas shells and charged batons to disperse the violent demonstrators
Eye witnesses said, troubles broke out at the city’s Paltan crossing at about 11-15 Am when police intercepted the demonstrators who were marching towards Motijheel Commercial Area in a procession to stage a sit-in demonstration in front of the head office of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) demanding an end to massive power cuts in the city..
The violent people tried to set fire to some buses near Baitul Mukarram Mosque area.
