UAE: Solar energy can help overcome power crisis

Solar power could be the answer to the shortage of electricity that is causing problems for developers in Sharjah and Ajman, according to an alternative energy company.

Buildings are standing empty because of the power shortage, said Danny Baldonado, Managing Director of Icoast Manufacturing Group from the Philippines. The company’s Power Plus system has already been used to provide electricity on a number of remote islands in Icoast’s home country.
“Power Plus is an innovative solution that uses only 30 to 40 per cent of electricity from the grid and could help provide electricity to completed properties that are lying idle due to the lack of power supplies,” added Baldonado.

“We have come to the UAE after realising that high-rise buildings in Sharjah and Ajman are empty because the utility companies are unable to provide water and electricity connections.

“Companies are unable to install new machinery or plant because of power problems. We hope our solar power solution will be the answer for these developers and companies.”

He said a three-star hotel in Ajman was being fitted with the system.

“This property has been lying idle for several months. Now we have developed a solution and the hotel will start functioning.”
