U.S. motorists are ignoring $3-a- gallon gasoline and probably will hit the road in record numbers for the Fourth of July holiday.
About 41.1 million people will travel this week, 84 percent of them by car, the American Automobile Association estimates. Vacationers are shortening trips and paring other expenses rather than getting out from behind the wheel, AAA says.
