U.S. energy’s future presents a powerful challenge

President Bush’s 2005 Energy Act authorized the U.S. Department of Energy to designate special corridors where there was energy congestion, where the federal government’s siting laws for transmission lines could supersede those of states.

It is with this in mind that the Energy Department issued two draft National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor designations, in accordance with the Energy Policy Act of 2005 this spring.
