TXU warns it may close plants

DALLAS

Last week, the Public Utility Commission proposed a $210 million penalty against TXU over charges that it jacked up electric prices in the summer of 2005 by selling power at inflated prices.

TXU is contesting the charges. And a spokeswoman said Thursday that TXU is talking with the PUC about avoiding similar charges if peak-demand electric prices spike in the future.
