Record high crude oil prices
are being reflected at more than just the gas pumps. Diesel fuel used by truckers
has increased in price by 21% over the past ten weeks and is up 27% year-over-year.
Today’s prices are 26.5 cents per litre, or 64% higher than they were two years ago
at about the same time.
Since diesel fuel is the second largest component of a trucking company’s operating
cost – and the largest component for the one-man/one-truck independent operator –
the impact on the industry is enormous.
