All this is predicated on sharp increases in Saudi Arabian oil production. The Department of Energy’s “International Energy Outlook 2005″ projects that Saudi Arabia should be producing 20.4 million barrels of oil per day by 2025, twice its current production. The New York Times recently featured a report on the Saudi economy, which is diversifying into other sectors. Do they know something we don’t?
A word to the wise, then: fuel economy matters. It should probably influence your decision in buying a new car in a way it hasn’t in 30 years. Even if you don’t mind paying sharply higher fuel prices at the pump, you’ll certainly be aware of the lower resale value of your gas guzzler.
