Start living an energy-efficient lifestyle and you could reap federal tax credits, not to mention rebates from your local utilities and the savings that come with reduced power use. But you’d better act soon and don’t be overly hasty: the federal credits only apply to 2006 and 2007 purchases and there are strict caps.
One credit covers permanent features such as windows, doors, roofs and insulation you might choose if you are building or renovating a home. If the materials meet certain standards, you’ll get a credit for 10% of the materials’ cost (excluding labor costs).
