Tanzania: Local Restaurants Claim to Bear Burden of Inflation

Arusha residents are annoyed by unscrupulous traders who increase food prices under the excuse of escalating world fuel prices

The Majority of Arusha municipality residents who were interviewed said the current food prices are artificial. The types of food whose prices have been hiked have no link with the recent global fuel price hike, they said.

“An average price of a plate of cooked banana in local restaurants shot up form Tsh.700 to around Tsh. 1,500 which is more than 100 percent rise and this is just within a period three weeks.
