The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) experts on energy generation from biomass have cited Tanzania as being among countries with rich energy generation alternative potential, ranging from coal, hydro to biomass resources.
Tanzania, like many other developing countries, is facing a significant power crisis which is adversely affecting activities and subsequent economic growth, a Dar es Salaam -based UNIDO official, Victor Akim, said , adding that while the problem exists, the country’s vast biomass resource base is there to make efficient and sustainable production of biomass energy an option that is readly available to Tanzania for meeting a significant part of the country’s energy requirements from renewable sources.
