Tankers thirsty for gas

Some waited hours for fuel Friday after a weeklong shortage

SOUTH DAKOTA – Supply issues had 75 tankers waiting several hours for gasoline, diesel or other fuel Friday morning in Sioux Falls, but an industry marketer said consumer prices won’t be affected.

Sioux Falls supplier Magellan Midstream was out of supply last week, but after it was piped 150 loads of fuel at 1 a.m. Friday it became the place to be for truck drivers.

Dave Fuhrman, a Stern Oil driver for four years, waited four hours early Friday to fill his truck for a trip to the K & H Car Wash on West 41st Street. After the dump, he got back in line behind three dozen trucks.

“It’s just availability. You go where the product is,” he said.

Dawna Leitzke, executive director for the South Dakota Petroleum & Propane Marketers Association, said the region has struggled with supply issues since May.
