Buxton’s Merrill Lynch trust is looking to the alternative energy sector as an increasingly attractive bet against a background of spiralling prices. With the volatile oil price remaining stubbornly high, the alternative energy market is becoming increasingly attractive, according to Poppy Buxton, co-manager of the Merrill Lynch New Energy Technology investment trust.
When we looked at the growth rates from wind and solar power they were far higher than for oil, gas and coal. We started investing in them in the traditional energy funds but the kind of companies are very different.
