New Mexico’s natural gas production dropped by nearly 5 percent in 2004 and some in the industry say, in spite of anticipated depletion rates, the decrease is a significant one.
Thanks to the 4.7 percent slip in production, according to data produced by the U.S. Department of Energy, this state is now the nation’s fourth largest producer of natural gas. Wyoming moved into the No. 3 spot with a more than 3 percent production jump because of new coal bed methane wells that came on line during the year.
