State-U.S. Revenue Sharing at Core of Offshore Plans

Oil companies and U.S. industries have been aching for years to get at the billions of barrels of oil and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas sitting off the shores of the USA.

There have always been reasons to look the other way: cheaper energy overseas; governors demanding royalty payments, beachgoers opposed to the sight of derricks in the distance, environmental groups predicting ecological disaster.

However, the creators of a new campaign to drill up and down the coasts say the time is right to get it done. And they say they’ve come up with a way of doing it that has statehouses, U.S. industry and even some notable environmental groups on board.
