Spot Shortages of Gas Reported Around Country

Less than a week after Hurricane Katrina severely disrupted energy supplies, spot gasoline shortages were reported yesterday at service stations in New York City and across the country heading into the three-day Labor Day weekend.

If consumers do not heed warnings to refrain from panicked buying, industry officials and analysts said, the situation could worsen.
