Spain Farmers Root out Biofuel Myth

The current increase in biofuel production is threatening livestock, and leading to a rise in the prices of cereals, chicken, pork, and beef, the Spain s Union of Small Farmers (UPA) warned on Monday.

UPA issued a release alerting on the upward trend of raw materials for animal food, thus affecting animal breeding.
The organization urged the agriculture ministry to meet and analyze the situation of the market, and repercussion of increased biofuel production.

Average cereal prices this season have been the highest in the last 15 years, thus resulting in increased production costs, they sustained.

Wheat, corn, and barley production next season is expected to rise, and high biofuel production will prevent prices from decreasing, consequently affecting activities such as livestock.
