South Australian Natural Gas Fields Running Out ‘Faster Than Expected’

This story was buried deep in the website of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s web-page and took considerable finding.

It’s one of the most important articles, as it shows just how precarious the Australian Natural Gas supplies really are.

It ALSO shows (by the article’s location) just how uninformed our News Media servces are on Peak “Oil” (and gas)
Big firms face gas restrictions

Gas restrictions for big industrial users in South Australia’s south-east come into force today.

A letter has also been issued asking residents to limit their energy use.

Origin Energy’s local gas field is running out more quickly than expected.

It is asking residential customers to ease demand on the dwindling supply by washing their clothes in cold water, limiting areas to be heated and restricting hot showers.

Ten big industrial gas users, including Kimberly-Clark, will have to cut gas use by about a third from today.

The tissue product giant is installing LPG tanks to cope with the shortfall and says customer orders and jobs will not be effected at this stage.

Origin Energy’s solution, a gas pipeline from Victoria, should be constructed by June, about three months ahead of schedule.
