Peak oil is logically inevitable – one day the planet will either run out of fossil fuels, or they will become too expensive to extract. But what will that mean for us, and should we be worrying now? What can we do to avoid a catastrophe when oil production eventually slows down?

If you are in a 1st world country, you probably will have a very difficult time adjusting to a 3rd world lifestyle. Since you will not be given a choice, other than death, you will have to deal with it. Start now. Avoid the rush! ^_^

For the coming years lack of fuel will potentially be caused by war, not geology.

Don’t know how being scared helps … although certainly being aware is a good place to start. Just as blind hope is pretty useless on one end of the spectrum, so is paralysis in fear at the other end. As mentioned in the clip, there probably won’t be any vast international, organized effort to adapt so what can be done will likely have to be done at the family/community level …

In the coming years, lack of fuel will not be the problem. The cost of fuel will be. Crude oil has tripled in price in the last ten years. Gasoline at the pumps here has increased by 225% in the same time period. The cost of fuel has an immediate impact on the world’s economies, as has been clearly illustrated since 2008, when a barrel of crude reached an all time high of US $147 bbl. What happens when oil reaches $200 bbl, $300 bbl, or more?
