Shimmering Siembra Petrolera for lack of drills

By 2010, there should be at least 205 drills for 2,229 wells

The goals of plan Siembra Petrolera (Oil Sowing) advanced in 2005 by the government of President Hugo Chavez after six years in office were not attained in 2006.

Last year was the first out of a new seven-year term, at the end of which, the authorities of state-run oil holding Petroleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) plan to get 5.8 million bpd of oil, in addition to 11.5 billion daily cubic meters of gas and a refining capacity of 4.1 million bpd.

Out of an theoretical output of 3.37 million bpd in the worst-case scenario, last year, according to official numbers, output reached 3.27 million bpd, almost the same level recorded in 2005 -a gap of 100,000 bpd.

Due, among others, to a cut imposed ending 2006 by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), so far this year, Venezuela’s oil production has decreased gradually until 3.09 million bpd, just before Pdvsa took hold of the operations in southern Orinoco oil belt and eastern Gulf of Paria. Over the last few weeks, it ran deeper to 3.07 million bpd, despite increasing output by joint ventures.
