Seeing The Effects Of Climate Change (PHOTOS)

Sometimes as we go about our daily lives, climate change can seem abstract, and not something we think we are experiencing on a daily basis. However, our planet is rapidly being altered and the physical signs of this shift can’t be ignored. These photos reveal how the world has already been impacted and what kind of changes we can expect in the future if we continue with our carbon-intense ways.

As sea levels rise, coastal erosion will become an increasingly important problem. Islands, such asSarichef Island in Alaska, are already experiencing the effects. The rising temperatures have caused a reduction in sea ice and thawing of permafrost, the thick sheet of ice below the surface, along the coast, leaving shorelines more vulnerable. This home on Sarichef island was destroyed by beach erosion in 2006. Sarichef residents face eventual evacuation.
