Secretary Norton offers energy overview

According to the Minerals Management Service, about 75 percent of the oil and gas production in the Gulf is expected to be online by Dec. 31.

On diversification of energy supplies: “We need diversification of energy, both the types of energy and the locations of supply and processing facilities. We need more refineries in different locations.”

Norton also said diversification means alternative resources, noting the department has approved 10 times as many permits for geothermal and wind projects on public lands in the last four years as in the previous four years.
