Scientist pours cold water on global warming as factor in killer storms

No evidence exists that global warming is responsible for an increase in severe hurricanes such as Juan, which battered Canada’s East Coast in 2003, and 2005’s Katrina, an American scientist argues in a new study.

Patrick Michaels, a professor of environmental science and state climatologist for Virginia, says in the latest issue of the journal Geophysical Research Letters the widely held view that sea surface temperatures from global warming are responsible for the increase in major hurricanes is simplistic.
