“We need more natural gas pipelines, more regasification terminals, more clean coal and a more extensive use of renewable energy without excluding compensation for the municipalities in which solid fuel plants are located. Meanwhile we can’t lose sight of the achievements of solar and nuclear power” said the minister for production activities, Claudio Scajola, in a long interview with ‘Elementi’ (the journal published by the Grid Authority) referring to his goal of closing once and for all the ‘oil era’ in Italian plants by 2010, thus ensuring better price and quality conditions within the national energy system comparable to those of major European countries.
