RP has 5 Cs vs. energy problem

The Philippines has potent weapons against an impending worldwide energy problem and these are the five Cs – coconut, camote, corn, cassava and sugar cane – that can be grown in the back yard.

Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri (Lakas, Bukidnon) said “energy security” in the country may be found in these crops which are main components in the manufacture of biofuel.

…The Bukidnon lawmaker revealed that China, which has built the world’s largest fuel ethanol plan, is experimenting on camote (sweet potato) and cassava, locally known as kamoteng kahoy, to meet its energy requirements.

…Another milestone in the history of the country’s active oil and gas well exploration is set to unfold as the Department of Energy (DOE) is scheduled to officially declare the commercial availability of the natural gas discovered in Barangay Libertad, this town.
